Login page for Charter Cable not working [resolved]

After many years of using 1Password, occasionally a login page comes along that just simply refuses to work (for me). Such is the case for Charter Cable at: https://www.myaccount.charter.com/order/login.aspx

I've configured it manually...I've let 1P configure it...and I've tried a combination. It simply will not work. I can see my username, password, and zip code being filled in as they should, then I'm shuttled off to a Charter 404 error page that says "Search Results Not Found".

I've tried editing everything out of the fields so that only the three fields of username, password, and zip code remain...but the same thing happens. Any ideas? Thanks!!

  • Hey @LarryMcJ,

Try saving a new login for that site following these instructions:

    Saving a new Login manually

If that still doesn't work, try changing the submit option for that login in Edit mode in the 1Password main app to Never submit:

    Hope that helps! :D

I had already tried two new logins, and each one I configured differently, one with the default of "Submit when enabled" and the other with "Always submit". Still doesn't work.

  • @LarryMcJ Have you tried setting it to Never submit?

    @LarryMcJ

Which Browser are you using ?

With Safari I am able to login properly to my account, I can also save a new copy and have it fill properly again in Safari. I would offer to sanitize my login and send it to you but I don't think it would necessarily help. 1Password seems by all accounts to be saving the login correctly. My saved login was from 1P3 but I created a test in 1P4 and was able to fill it properly.

One other note I am using the beta Safari extension. I don't expect it to make a difference but wanted to note it here.

@JasperP , I just tried with my login and Never Submit / Submit and it had no effect on logging in. I was able to login properly.

Try entering edit mode and making sure the only info saved with the web form details section is like my screen shot below. This is exactly how mine is setup. I did change the passwords obviously. :D

I am guessing maybe some data is entered where it should not be etc. The fields are specific. ie. Name, Password and Zip code. I am thinking its that you have extra text somewhere .. if you check your details.

Hey, Tommy...hope you had a great Christmas!

No...it's still not working, and BTW I'm using Safari. My web form details configuration is identical to yours and I've tried everything I can think of...it simply will not log me in with "Go and Fill". Nor will it work from the Safari extension. I tried creating it again twice, and also tried manually. I keeps taking me to a blank Charter page name named "Search Results" but it does not log me in.

JasperP: yes, I tried setting it to "Never Submit" and then pressing submit manually. When I do this none of the fields fill at all.

Larry, hope you had a great Christmas as well.

What version of Safari ? I tried with Safari 6, 7 (OS X Mt. Lion and Mavericks respectively) both using 1Password 4 and tried both the stable and beta extension's both OS's work properly.

Incidentally while were on the topic. I have to keep Chrome on all my machines just for the Charter website. I can login properly but I always have issues with things like viewing my bill etc.

Is this the type of blank page you are seeing. In my understanding and it may be a little limited :P This occurs when something (even the cursor) is placed in the search field.

    https://www.myaccount.charter.com/visitors/searchSite.aspx?

I am going to send you my sanitized login and lets see if something we don't notice is causing the issue. I remember back in 1Password 3 when, (I was a BOA customer) I could never get logged in properly and I followed all creation steps multiple times. Finally I downloaded a good copy from another user (khad.. I think) and it worked without fail. (Till I closed my account w/ them.)

Oh, I remember all too well the BoA issues from even the very beginning of 1P...what a nightmare. FWIW, I imported your .pif, changed "only" my username and password, then added my own zip code, but I still get the exact same results as with my own login using "Open and Fill". I see my username, password, and zip code fill in the fields, and then I'm sent to this page:

    https://www.myaccount.charter.com/visitors/searchSite.aspx?cx=006023053227840304377:5bqyuqh46q0&cof=FORID:11&q=

With your .pif, as with mine, even if I manually go to the login page and fill from the Safari extension...same exact results.

Yep that looks like the page ID, I received when I clicked the search box with it being blank.

Sorry Larry, I wish I could have helped more. I think this is one for @dteare

Tommy, it's been several days...do you think Dave will have a chance to look at this?

  • Either @sjk or @Megan should be able to give you a hand. :)

    Hi @LarryMcJ,

I'm so sorry that you've been having such trouble with this Login - and that you've been waiting a while for an Agile response. Like @thightower, I was able to create a Login that behaved properly for me. The one setting I don't see mentioned in the previous thread is 'Animate form filling'. Could you please disable this feature (in Preferences > Browser) and see if this makes any difference?

This is a known issue that our developers are currently working on tracking down - I'm hoping this will get things behaving properly for you!

Megan, your suggestion "sort of" fixed this...but something is still wrong. If I turn off "Animate form filling" and in the login set "Submit" to "Never Submit" it fills the form (without animation) and then I manually press "Submit" and it works just fine.

But...if I change "Submit" to either "Submit when enabled" or "Always" it will not work and does the same thing as I reported earlier in the thread.

BTW...no need to be sorry this isn't working...it's not a big deal. I just wanted to eventually get it fixed and/or determine if it's on my end or yours.

    Hi @LarryMcJ,

Ah-ha! If "Submit" is being difficult for you, I might have another option for you to test out here. If you purchased your version of 1Password from the Mac App Store (I don't see a reference to your version number in the thread previously), there is a bug that prevents 1Password from submitting some Logins. If you install this package: http://i.agilebits.com/kyle/tools/1PasswordAutosubmit.pkg, things should behave a bit better for you.

Please let me know if this helps!

This particular version is from the MAS, so I'll try the package and let you know if it fixes things. Thanks!

Megan, the fix didn't work, and I even tried rebooting. Just to clarify what does work, though...if I configure "Submit" for this login to "Never Submit" it fills the blocks with my information "username, zip code, and password" and then if I press "Login" manually, it works just fine. So the information is correct, but it just won't work with "Submit" configured for "Submit when enabled" or for "Always".

Megan, I just noticed that after applying this "fix" I now have a few other logins that won't work...but they were definitely working before the fix. Same problem with these..."open and fill" does not work, yet manually filling the fields does work. Doesn't matter if the configurations is on "Always submit" or "Submit when enabled".

What started out as an issue for only one login, and not that big of a deal...is turning into a real problem for an app that I use dozens of times daily. Hope there is something you can do. Thanks.

    Hi @LarryMcJ,

I'm so sorry to hear that this is turning into such a process for you. Let's just take a closer look at your system here, just to be sure there's nothing wonky going on: Could you please send us a Diagnostics Report?

Download the 1Password Troubleshooting utility and follow the instructions to generate the report.

Then attach the entire file to an email to us: support+forum@ agilebits .com

Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forums, but please do include a link to this thread in your email, along with your forum handle so that we can "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report in our inbox.

Once we see the report we should be able to better assist you. Thanks in advance!

    Hi, @LarryMcJ.

I haven't been able to locate your email with the report, sent from the address you've used in the past or to the one mentioned in @Megan's reply. Did you send it from or to a different address? I'm only finding our last email correspondence from two months ago.

No worries if I don't find it; surely someone else will. :)

    sjk,

I just sent it to the address pre-filled by the tool after the report was generated (support@agilebits.com). But I just now looked again and noticed I should have sent it to support+forum@agilebits.com. I'll generate another report and send it to the correct address right now. Thanks!

    sjk,

I just noticed the troubleshooting tool launched Mail.app when it sent the diagnostics report. I hardly ever use that email so I sent a followup email with the correct email address. Sorry for the confusion.

    No worries, @LarryMcJ. :)

I've found all the email you've sent recently, with the latest report, and will make sure replies go to your preferred address. Thanks for helping get this sorted out!

This is really strange. You can read back in the thread so see when this wasn’t working correctly if I had the login configured for “Submit when enabled” or “Always submit” I would get an error that simply took me to a page and at the top it said “Search Results”.

I had probably tried this 20 times back then so finally gave up and configured it to “Never submit” and pressed the SUBMIT button manually. But just now I changed the login back to “Submit when enabled” and it worked just fine…I made absolutely no other changes.

I have no explanation for what happened…but as a retired geek myself, I won’t even try :-) For now it appears to have fixed itself, but if you’d like any further info to figure out why…just let me know.

Thanks to everyone who helped here...just wish we all know why it fixed itself.

    Hi @LarryMcJ,

I'm thrilled to hear that things are working for you, finally! Perhaps it's a combination of software updates and changing settings ... either way, let's just hope it continues to behave.

If you do run into any further snags, we'd be happy to help you :)
