1 Password Mini no interaction with Google Chrome

Hi,

I just upgraded from 1PW 3 to 4 and now I am having the problem that - while looking real pretty - 1 Password Mini stops interacting with Google Chrome after a while, meaning that when typing in the keyboard-shortcut actually nothing happens. No autofill, no new tabs or windows.

It seems like when I quit and restart Chrome (which I don't really like to do because I am the type of person that always has a couple of project-delimited windows, with a few tabs sitting minimized in the dock) it is working for a while and then just stops.

When using the Browser extension however it seems to work quite reliably but I can't figure out on how to change the behaviour so that my keyboard-shortcut invokes the browser extension, rather than 1PW Mini.

Can you give me a hand at this?

Thanks and Cheers,

Marc

    Hi Marc,

I would like to apologize for the delay in responding to you here but we experienced a surge in support requests recently. We're all working hard and putting in extra hours to get back to our usual snappy responses and we really appreciate your patience.

Please take a look at our 1Password fails to fill data article for some common causes and fixes of filling problems within the browser.

In 1Password 4, the browser extension and the Mini are essentially the same thing. The only difference is that the Mini does all the heavy lifting and the browser extension does only the actual filling. By taking the processing out of the browser extension, we are able to provide a much more stable browsing experience.

If you are still seeing inconsistent behaviour in the browser extension after reading through the Filling article above, let's try reinstalling the 1Password 4 browser extension for Chrome.

    Please follow these steps:

    • Open Chrome.
    • Type chrome://extensions in the address bar and hit return.
    • Click the trash can next to the 1Password 4 extension and remove it.
    • Restart your Mac.
    • Launch Chrome and visit the following page: https://agilebits.com/browsers/index.html
    • Click the big green button, and confirm the installation.

Please let me know how this works!

Megan, thanks for getting back to me.

I did as you advised. I have read through the "1Password fails to fill data" article already before writing (you) here, but doubled checked it again today just to be sure.

I then uninstalled, restarted and reinstalled. At the moment everything works as expected. But is has been doing it before too and then after a couple of hours stopped doing so. We will see. Maybe I will be lucky this time.

I'll report back here if things break again or not.

    Thanks and Cheers, Marc

    There you go...

    Just stopped working again. :(

I don't know. Maybe it has something to do with Chrome's mulitiple user management. I have 4 different users set up. A private user, one for work and so on. I save different favorites and dashboards there and frequently switch back and forth between these users.

I would have to investigate further but it's kinda annoying really. I am a webdeveloper and like I said I have a lot of browser windows open at any given time and I have a lot of logins saved in 1Password for different clients. Kinda wish I hadn't upgraded.

    Hi Marc,

Aha! Multiple profiles. That could be where the trouble is coming in! For some reason, 1Password Mini seems to go a bit wonky when multiple profiles are involved. Our developers are currently looking for a solution here, and I've added a vote for you in our issue tracker. I do apologize for the inconvenience here, I can imagine how annoying this must be!

Alright, sounds good. What would be the best way to stay updated on this issue? Simply reading the release notes of new updates?

    Hi Marc,

Reading the release notes is a good way to keep up with things, but I have added this thread to our issue tracker, and requested that it be updated when we're finally able to make some progress here.
