Licence ambiguity
1 password came highly recommended. On visiting your web site I believed 1 password 4 mac family was the right one to suit my family needs . Having purchased it I have found it very difficult to impossible to work out how to set it up. On visiting this forum it appears that it does not meet my requirements and I am unsure of the way forward.
We are a family of 4 all with our own macs (osx) and iPhones/iPads (iOS).
I have downloaded the software to my own mac but have no idea how to distribute to my other family members. I now understand that it will not work on iOS devices. If I have to buy this separately, how many licences do I need and is there a family version. If I only need 1 licence will it be possible for my daughter to use this on their iPhones and sync with their macs.
Primary requirement is to set up 1 password on my iMac, iPad and iPhone.
Please advise.

Hey @D4R,
I have downloaded the software to my own mac but have no idea how to distribute to my other family members.
For your family to use 1Password, simply download 1Password 4 on each Mac, then apply your license (same way you licensed your app).
I now understand that it will not work on iOS devices.
Licensing is a bit different on iOS since the app is sold by Apple. Purchases from the App Store are tied to the purchaser's Apple ID, and will work on any device authorized to use that Apple ID. So you'll need to authorize all your family devices to use the ID you purchase 1Password with if you just want to purchase once.
If I only need 1 licence will it be possible for my daughter to use this on their iPhones and sync with their macs.
Everyone will be able to keep their own data in sync between all their devices.
Hope that helps! :)

Thank you... Going in the right direction. Next thing to sort is 2 of my daughters macs aren't on mountain lion which was where my problems originally started. Am I right in saying 1 password 4 needs at least mountain lion to run.

Yes, Mountain Lion is required for version 4. Version 3 will run fine on earlier OS X versions and it will sync properly with version 4 for iOS.
I'm unsure about how you should go about using version 3 under a family license for version 4. If I were you, I would send email about that to support (at) agilebits (dot) com.

Hi @D4R,
I was able to locate your purchase information in our back office records based on the email address attached to your forum account. I've added a license for 1Password 3 to your account, and you should see an email soon with the details.
You can download 1Password 3 here: http://help.agilebits.com/1Password3/legacy_versions.html
The installation instructions for 1Password 3 are here: http://help.agilebits.com/1Password3/getting_started.html
Please let me know if you run into any snags getting things all set up, I'd be happy to help!

I think that I have a similar problem -- I bought 1Password 4 from the App Store on my OSX 10.9.1 desktop, and when I go to download the iPhone app, I have to pay $18 for it. The advertising said "purchase once," which made me think that there would be no further purchase required to use 1Password on my iPhone. What am I missing?
Thank you.

Hi @vand,
I'm sorry there was some confusion in the 1Password advertising. Where exactly did you see "purchase once" and think it would be a single purchase for Macs and iOS devices?
On the 1Password for iOS page it says:
- Purchase once and use across all your iOS devices
I don't find anything like that on the 1Password for Mac page or on our AgileBits web site. However, similarly to iOS devices, "purchase once" may refer to being able to use 1Password 4 Mac that you purchased from the Mac App Store on any other Macs that you have. To do that, simply log in to the App Store on the other Mac using the same Apple ID that you originally purchased with and download the app again without having to repurchase it.
1Password license and software purchases are platform-specific. Each user and each platform requires a separate license or software purchase. Family licenses can also be purchased for software that's downloadable directly from our web site. Software that's been purchased directly from Apple doesn't require a separate license.
You will need to purchase 1Password 4 for iOS separately if you would like to use it on your iOS devices as well. We have our software available individually on each platform to make it easier to meet each customer's unique needs without charging them for software that they don't need. Because we offer 1Password on such a variety of platforms, we have found this method allows the most flexibility for our users.
If you would like access to your passwords on your iOS devices without purchasing the full app, 1PasswordAnywhere is a feature that allows you read-only access to your database if you sync your data to Dropbox. Just log in to www.dropbox.com on your mobile browser and find the 1Password.html file inside your 1Password.agilekeychain. Type in your Master Password to see all your data. You won't be able to add or edit items here, but you can copy and paste as necessary.
That being said, we do think that 1Password 4 for iOS is a pretty nifty little app with many of the great features that you're already enjoying in 1Password 4 for Mac. You don't need to buy it, but it might come in handy. :)
I hope that information helps clear up confusion about purchasing and licensing. If you have other questions about this or anything else please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks!
