Sync problems since upgrading to Version 4
Hi there,
Ever since I've upgraded 1Password to version 4 in the past couple of weeks, I've realised that there are sync errors. I am using Dropbox to Sync but if I change / update a password on my laptop, the changes dont get reflected on my home computer nor my iPhone. I've just had a look again today at one that I had issues with at home last night and it is the correct one on my laptop but it is also the old one still on my phone.
Dropbox is active and syncing correctly and is 'up to date'.
The file date on my laptop dropbox 1 password keychain file is up to date. But it's not carrying the information across.
I am also having similar issues with Shared Vaults with my workmates and their copies of 1Password.
Please advise as I am constantly having to do forgotten password when on different computers.
Thanks very much!

I'm having the same problem. I update on one computer. Dropbox syncs, and I can see the files in the 1Password package in Dropbox are updated. But 1Password (latest App Store version) doesn't update. And I check the sync status and it shows a recent sync.

Same here. In fact, I think this may have just wiped out everything I've added since December.

Welcome to the club! Luckily your data isn't lost, though, just go to the machine(s) were you added the data that did not get synced, invoke 1Password, open the preferences, disable the Dropbox syncing, and then re-enable the Dropbox syncing again, choosing the very same 1Password.agilekeychain object as before. 1Password will now be once again able to sync to this 1Password.agilekeychain — until your next reboot, probably, after which you will very likely need to perform the procedure again — and will merge the contents of the 1Password.agilekeychain with your local database contents in both directions. This will make your new entries show up in your Dropbox keychain, too, and will make them accessible by the other system(s). Only drawback: entries which you deleted locally will spring back to life as 1Password includes them again from the Dropbox 1Password.agilekeychain.
I.e. this seems to be a sandbox permission problem; when the machine is rebooted, 1Password will somehow lose the permission to access the Dropbox folder(s) where your 1Password.agilekeychain file(s) is/are stored and then silently fails to sync. Very annoying that this condition is not flagged up front, instead 1P lures you in a false sense of safety. This problem has been there for me from the very first 4.0 version of 1P I installed on Mountain Lion, and now on Mavericks with 4.1.2 the situation has not improved in any way. And just about everywhere you read nothing but high praises for 1P. Go figure! :-(

Ugh. I already did this once assuming a different problem. I was using the direct-from-AgileBits version until recently (I was a beta tester of 4) and then bought a MAS version. Didn't realize it would cause this problem.
I had precisely that issue, too: I relinked the Dropbox folder and then I had a huge number of conflicts. Very frustrating.
No response here yet from the company. Perhaps they have a bug fix in the works? It's makes the software unusable due to lack of sync.

Hi Ben, @glennfleishman, @kylebragger, and @Logan8212
I'm so sorry to hear that you've been having trouble with sync lately. There was a bug in previous versions of the Mac App Store version of 1Password where 1Password could lose permission to sync after a system re-start. You can read the details here: 1Password 4.1 Losing Sync Permissions after System Restart [MAS] - resolved with 4.1.2 update, but the important thing is that this bug has been resolved in 4.1.2. Please make sure that you are updated to the latest version, and then go to Preferences > Sync and reset Dropbox syncing. This will re-write the sync permissions (hopefully for good this time!)
If sync is still misbehaving for you after this, please do let me know - we'll want to investigate as soon as possible!

Oh, good. I have 4.1.2 everywhere. I was able to solve this by disabling Dropbox syncing on the out of date machine, delete all entries, export a full file from the up-to-date machine, and import it. This prevented me from having out of date local entries from the non-syncing machine cause problems. Then I re-enabled Dropbox sync and the freshest copy is now the master copy.

Hi Megan, I also too have the latest version 4.1.2 on all machines as well as the latest update on my iPhone. I reset the sync of dropbox and all appears to communicate with dropbox fine and after doing a reset it did send the correct / updated information to the phone however, any additions / changes made on the iPhone weren't communicated back to the computer. So the sync is still performing strangely without doing a reset of all dropbox settings on all devices each time.
Thanks!0 -
A slight update - the sync seems to be behaving this morning when putting new entries in. I'll advise if it looks as though it isn't communicating properly again.

Hello all,
Yes, the "disable, then reenable Dropbox sync" routine is needed one more time to fix things for good after installing the App Store version of 4.1.2. This fact should have been pointed out in App Store "What's New" notes for the 4.1.2 release. The notes just say "Rebooting no longer causes sync to fail when using a custom location in the Dropbox folder." so I incorrectly assumed no further action was necessary.
Thank you, AgileBits, keep up the good work!

Hi @glennfleishman, Ben and @Logan8212,
I am so relieved to hear that things are syncing nicely for you all again! I do apologize that it wasn't clear in the Release Notes - I'll be sure to pass that along to our developers, Logan.
If you see any other snags, please let us know ... although I hope things continue behaving properly for you :)
