"All Mac App Store customers get 1Password 4 for free. Yes, all of them"

When I go to the Mac App Store it shows that it will cost $50. I went to it through the link embedded in this line at http://blog.agilebits.com/2013/10/03/1password-4-for-mac-is-here/ under "Upgrades and launch sale." I have Version 3.8.21, bought via MacUpdate but their list shows no purchase date. I upgraded to Mavericks two days ago and am trying to make sure I update versions of apps I use regularly, but this whole introduction of 1Password 4 is confusing, time-consuming, and apparently un-coordinated, in the sense that "free" = $50.

    Hey @whldorsey,

I have Version 3.8.21, bought via MacUpdate

You're not a Mac App Store customer then.

This bullet point from the blog post applies in your case:

    • All website customers who purchased 1Password for Mac in 2013 get v4 for free. Yes, that’s a nine-month free upgrade window

If you purchased 1Password 3 in 2013, the upgrade is free.

If you purchased 1Password 3 prior to 2013, you can enter your v3 license key on the AgileBits store to see your discounted upgrade options.

    Hope that helps! :)

Thanks. I figured it out. Too bad the full statement was not up front with the offer. I full-price purchased it (4.1.2) via the App Store because I ALSO did not know the path to discounted upgrade options — besides, I could not recover the V3 license key from MacUpdate but figured out another way to estimate that I had bought it in 2011 if not earlier.

But now I am puzzled because I have received two notifications of upgrades via MacUpdate but when I go to the App Store, no updates are found. Is it that the upgrades are not for 1.9/Mavericks?

Hmmm. I also can not find my license key for v4. I don't want to be in a situation parallel to what I faced with V3.

If your purchase was from the App Store, then you don't have or need a license, the purchase is tied to your Apple ID.

And due to Apple's procedure for accepting apps, there is always a delay of a week or two between a web site update and an App Store update.
