Master password sync

I see that it's a known issue that master password change doesn't sync to Macs and you have to change it manually in all your Macs. Indeed - if I change master password in one of my Macs, it isn't synced to another one and I have to use old master password to access data in there. But data sync via Dropbox still works between these Macs. Why? How? Can you explain in more detail what's going on?
