Sync between two vaults.

I apologize if this is already been discussed. I only did a quick search and I didn't see what I was looking for. So basically this is what I would like to do. I have a primary vault, and a shared vault with my wife. Since she is a new user to 1password, I went ahead and created a shared vault for her and shared a bunch stuff with her (bank, cellphone, electricity etc...). However, I really would like to keep the overall control at my primary vault. I guess this is what I'm getting at is this:

  1. Create a new login (or notes, etc...) lets call it TestTest >> stored at the primary vault
  2. Share TestTest with my wife >> at the shared vault
  3. Let say now, I need to either change or add notes to the TestTest logic file, so I perform the edit >> at the primary vault

Now, my question is will this edit of TestTest at the primary vault, change what was shared at the Shared vault as well? Or will I have to copy it again? Or simply work off of the TestTest from shared vault from now on? I would really prefer working with just the primary vault, since my wife hardly worries about this kind of things (I'm only just doing this in case a bus decides to come at me tomorrow or something), and I would hate to have to keep track of which vault has what (or which vault contains the newer stuff). Thanks for the help.

    Hi @aajeev‌,

I do apologize for the confusion here. "Sharing" an item will not keep that item in sync across vaults. In your example above, you would want to edit only the TestTest from the shared vault to ensure that your wife would get any updates. In fact, the TestTest could be deleted from your primary vault once you've confirmed that it has successfully been saved into the shared vault.

Our developers are working on making multiple vaults as user-friendly as possible, but if you don't like the idea of switching between vaults to access some of your information, you might want to consider a different set-up for your data: Folders or Smart Folders could help you keep your information separate from your wife's and nicely organized within one vault.

I hope this helps, but we're here if you have any further questions!

I see, thank you for the answer. I suppose I can deal with it, it would be nice though if the primary vault can simply control/update stuff in the shared vault. I don't really care so much as separate things from my wife, I won't mind giving her all my password, the only reason is that is stopping me is that she is fairly relax with her password security control. But thanks anyways. I'll take a look at Folder and Smart Folders.

    Hi @aajeev,

I'm sorry I don't have the perfect answer for you here. Unfortunately, due to the way that vaults are encrypted, it is not possible to keep items synced up across multiple vaults. I do hope you find a solution that works for you!
