changes to "Notes" section do not sync using iCloud [moved to email]

I have added a "keyword" to ~40 items in my Primary vault (secure notes, logins, credit cards, etc). I enter this keyword in "search" to filter these items. I entered the keywords on my laptop, but the keyword is not synced to the same items on my desktop Mac or iOS devices. I use the App store 1Password version 4.1.2 and sync my primary vault through iCloud. I sync several secondary vaults through Dropbox.

My secondary vaults (Dropbox sync) do not have this problem.... it seems to be a "Sync using iCloud" issue.

Actually, it gets worse. I disabled syncing on my laptop & desktop (without deleting the data on iCloud), then restarted syncing on both. None of the of the changes were synced to the desktop, but now only 22 of the 40 items on my laptop have the keyword in the notes section. It appears about half of the items synced to the older desktop version, but none of the newer laptop versions were synced to the desktop.

It appears that 1Password has destroyed data.

Is iCloud syncing just unreliable? I am using iCloud so I can have multiple (shared) vaults on Dropbox and continue using the iOS apps as suggested by Administrator "JasperP" here:

    http://discussions.agilebits.com/discussion/22002/use-three-keychains-for-three-vaults-in-three-separate-dropbox-folders#latest

    It seems my options are:
    1) stop using the iOS apps and sync all vaults through Dropbox, or...
    2) Stop using multiple vaults, sync my primary through Dropbox and continue using iOS apps.

I'm sorry that you're having trouble with iCloud sync.

I personally use iCloud sync, and find it very reliable. I've never had any issue with iCloud not syncing items.

Could you please try disabling iCloud sync on all your devices and deleting your data from iCloud?

Wait about 10 minutes (to ensure iCloud is caught up), then re-enable iCloud sync on one of your Macs. Wait another 10 minutes, and re-enable iCloud on you next Mac.

    Does that fix the issue?

Nope... doesn't help. "Solved" one problem and created two more (I say "solved" because I'm not confident that it wouldn't happen again after my experience I describe below).

I stopped syncing on all devices, deleted iCloud data, then added my desktop, then two laptops. Worked great... updates on one computer updated right away on the others (which didn't happen previously).

I added my iPhone to iCloud sync, but it didn't see the "keyword" I added in the notes section on the Mac. (problem 1). I then added my iPad to iCloud sync and it also did not see the keyword. I added a second keyword using my iPhone and it didn't appear on my Mac or the iPad (problem 2).

Disabled, the enabled syncing on one Mac, but still doesn't see the updated keyword from the iPhone.

Disabled syncing on all Macs & iOS devices and deleted iCloud data. Waited. Re-established iPhone and iPad iCloud syncing. The keyword I added on the iPhone did not appear on the iPad (no Macs connected). I added a keyword on the iPad and it did not appear on the iPhone. "forced synced" both devices and keywords still not showing up on either device.

To summarize, I have had problems syncing updates on my Macs (where there was actual data loss), and on my iOS devices. This is very flakey. I have lost confidence in using iCloud sync for any purpose (iOS or Mac).

Maybe I'll try Wi-Fi sync for my iOS devices and stick to Dropbox for my Macs.

Keep in mind, I am syncing 3 "secondary" vaults on dropbox. Not sure if this has anything to do with this issue. As I understand it, this setup is supposed to be supported as long as iOS devices are not also synced through dropbox.

    Dave

edit: I guess you can't do a wi-fi sync between iOS devices unless your Mac also has Wi-Fi sync. Guess I can't sync my iOS devices at all if I need secondary vaults... (which I do since they are shared with others).

I'm a little paranoid about my data now, so I have a couple questions regarding the keychain size, number of items and backup size.

I re-established syncing of my primary vault with dropbox. The keychain size is ~1 mb on dropbox. It used to be much larger; maybe 40 to 80 mb (I have many pdf attachments in secure notes). My most recent backup size is ~80 mb. The number of items went from 370 items yesterday (when I was still syncing through iCloud) to 336 items today (syncing through Dropbox). I haven't deleted any items since yesterday.

Edit: the number of items mentioned are from the backup window in preferences (from my laptop). I notice the same information on my desktop lists 675 items, so I guess I don't know what "items" refer to. I assumed it meant total number of separate entries in all my vaults, but guess not. Still surprised the Dropbox keychain is so small.

I checked the iCloud preferences (from my Mac) and found there is an item in the "Documents and Data" section called "1Password mini." This is after I stopped syncing 1Password with iCloud (all devices) and deleted 1Password data from iCloud using the the Mac "syncing preferences." Shouldn't all 1Password data be gone from iCloud? Could this be related to the problems I am having?

Edit: Under the iCloud "Manage Storage," there is no 1Password data listed... never-rmind this last comment. Just attempting to troubleshoot this issue....

    Hi @nokin50,

I'm very sorry you're still having trouble with this.

Could you please email us a Diagnostics Report from all your devices (Mac & iOS), along with a link to this topic, to: support+forum@agilebits.com

A brief comment here mentioning that you've sent the report would also be helpful.

    Thanks in advance! :)

Yes... I will send reports in the morning and post here when I do. However, I have now stopped syncing on the iOS devices and now sync my Macs through dropbox since iCloud isn't working for me. Should I complete the reports with this configuration or re-establish the previous configuration where I was experiencing the problems? Also, any comments about the reduced current keychain size (it is now ~5 mb vs >40mb previously), ? Is this expected?

    Thanks
    Dave

    Hi Dave ( @nokin50 ),

Thanks for updating us on your situation. There's no need to re-establish you previous configuration, we should be able to get the information we need from your Logs. As to your other question, we'll be able to provide more details on your situation once we take a look at the Diagnostic Report. :)

OK.... I sent an email with 3 reports from 3 Macs, plus two emails for my iPad and iPhone.
