Secondary Vault not auto-locking

I am a new user of 1Password and discovered that my secondary vault is not locking automatically. Here is the repro case:

Pre-condition: Using 1Password version 4.2.2 on OSX Mavericks 10.9.2. I have a Primary vault and a secondary vault.

  1. I open 1Password and unlock the primary vault
  2. I then switch to the secondary vault and unlock it.
  3. Quit 1Password
  4. Put computer to sleep (i.e. close laptop lid)
  5. Wake computer up and launch 1Password
  6. Am asked to unlock the primary vault and I do so
  7. I then switch to the secondary vault and am able to access without unlocking it.

Step 7 should not be allowed without first unlocking the secondary vault.

I'm not sure how to manually lock both vaults. When I chose to lock a vault, the UI acts as if both vaults are locked.

    @djmuoio‌

Any time you unlock the primary vault you are essentially saying hey I am the owner I need access to ALL my data. This being the case 1Password auto unlocks all vaults when you enter the Master Password for the primary vault.

If you happen to need data just out of the secondary vault. (e.g. You need to give an employee access on your computer) You can always unlock the 2nd vault independently of the first using its own Master Password associated with that vault. (see below). This is useful if you need to give access to a 2nd vault to the kids and a Netflix login etc, while protecting your banking info in the primary vault. The design would all YOU access to the bank and Netflix with no restrictions.

So this behavior is by design.

    • Primary vault - Gives access to all vaults, no matter at what point you open this vault.

    • Auxiliary vaults - Can be opened independently of the Primary from the locked state.

      1. From locked state open 2 w/ its Master Password , = access to 2 only
      2. From locked state open 3 w/ its Master Password , = access to 3 only
      3. From locked open 2 w/ its Master Password , = access to 2 / then switch to 3, you need to enter in 3's Master Password to gain access.
      4. From locked open 2 w/ its Master Password , = access to 2 / then switch to Primary = ALL vaults unlocked 1,2,3, ∞

    I hope I didn't confuse you more.

Makes sense, I got it now. Thanks for the complete explanation.
