User guide is far too basic.

The user guide and tutorials are basically useless. I just upgraded to 1password4 for mac from agile bits and the latest iPad version from the apple store. It took me hours to figure out how to switch from web mode to vault mode. When I touched the categories icon, I was in the software licenses page and couldn't figure out how to change the page.

in other words, there is no information for a new user on how to navigate around the program. Shame on you!

I fully agree. Used this program in all of its forms for years and find agilebits doesn't really understand customer service from our point of view. Searching forums or sending them emails for unusual troubleshooting problems is one thing, but just having to spend time searching around for how to use the programs and coordinate them with each other is unfair. They advertise "look at how neat we are we enable you to do this and that," but figuring it out is another matter!

I have to say that I haven't had any trouble using 1Password, even without the forum, technical support, or other supports. I have had a few questions, which have always been answered promptly, here or via email. And there have been few users whoa also participate in the forums that have been really helpful too. In other words, I haven't ever felt the same as you two have.

    Hi Earl,

I'm sorry that you've been having trouble getting started with 1Password. For the basics on getting started with 1Password, please check out our user guide. While it doesn't cover everything, the 1Password 4 for iOS user guide is a good place to start. We do hope to add more documentation in the future, and we're just in the process of hiring another person to join our documentation team.

To answer your questions (more info for you, and to help out anyone else who sees this discussion):

how to switch from web mode to vault mode

Tap or drag the vault mode handler in the top right corner to switch back to vault mode:

To learn more about web mode, and the web/vault mode handler, please see: http://learn.agilebits.com/1Password4/iOS/Features/Web/ios-web-mode.html

I was in the software licenses page and couldn't figure out how to change the page.

Tap the Categories button at the top to switch to a different category:

You can also tap the categories icon to view all items from all categories.

To learn more about categories, please see: http://learn.agilebits.com/1Password4/iOS/Features/Vault/ios-categories.html

If you have any questions, please do ask. We're happy to help!

@sdw Like I said above, we do our best to provide the basics in our user guide, even though it does not cover every single thing. If you have any questions or would like to know anything more, please let us know. We're always happy to help! And questions from our users help us decide what specific details to include in our user guide, with the most common inquiries usually making their way into some form of documentation.

@hawkmoth Thanks for the comment! Our team (and other forum users) are always happy to help others learn about 1Password, and we always try to respond as soon as possible. :)

Thank you. I figured it out for myself eventually. My point was- why not include the basic information that you have just shared with me in the user guide instead of making us search for it?

You're welcome, Earl. Thanks for the feedback.

By the way, the main reason I answered your questions is in case someone else finds this discussion and wants to know.
