I saw this post today on ArsTechnica website about recommendation to change the login password:
"Dear readers, please change your Ars account passwords ASAP"

I wanted to thank you for how easy the password change was.

  • I logged in, selected Settings and copied my old password in appropriate field.
  • I let password generator create a new one, clicked Fill.
  • A popup with update to existing login suggestion showed up. (Before I proceeded I checked that the new password was saved in Password category just in case).
  • Clicked OK.
  • Done!
I logged out and logged in again using 1P4 and all worked just as it supposed to.

PS: Typing this message too much longer then the password change.

Thank you so much for the kinds words, @Fairgame! :)

I'm glad 1Password was able to make changing your password a breeze!

This is not working for me.

I do not get a pop up window with an update, and the new password is not saved in the login. I'm using Safari/Mavericks/MacBook ProRetina (October 2013) and the latest 1P and extension.

    "Block Pop ups" is disabled.

Please help. In light of Heartbleed, I'm doing a lot of password changes, and this is a hassle!

    Thanks,
    Rob

    Hi Rob,

I'm so sorry to hear that you're having difficulty updating passwords here. Please ensure that 'Automatically ask to Save new Logins' is checked off in Preferences > Browser.

Please note that, by default, when you use 'Fill' on the password generator to fill in your new password, this password will also be copied (temporarily) to your clipboard so that you can open the entry in 1Password and manually update it. This is a good back-up to have in case 1Password does not pop up to ask you to update your password automatically. :)

I also don't get this popup offering to change my password:

Instead, I get this option to save my login:

… but that just saves a duplicate login, which is annoying.

I have "Ask to save new logins" checked. I'm using the Chrome extension on a Mac.

    Hi Alice,

Thanks for those screenshots. The grey bar that offers to save your Login is from the 1Password 3 extension. We've only added the 'Update existing Login' in 1Password 4. If you are using 1Password 4, please uninstall the 1Password 3 browser extensions and go to the extension download page to grab some shiny new version 4 extensions.

Unfortunately, if you are still using 1Password 3, you have a few options for updating passwords:

    • Save the new Login when prompted and delete the one with the old password
    • When you want to change a password, open 1Password and generate the new password from directly within the entry, then copy and paste into the password change fields on the site in question.

I hope this helps, but we're here if you have any further questions!
