How can I get my data from 3.8.21 to 4? I've searched and searched and nothing works. Thanks for the help.

    Hi @JanetB,

I'm sorry that you've been having trouble getting started with 1Password 4. Please see this guide (specifically the Existing Users section) to get your version 3 data into the new app:

Setting Up 1Password 4 for Mac

If you're stuck on a specific step, please let me know and I'll be happy to help! :)

I get the screen to unlock with my master password. That works. I never get any other screen/help with migrating data. The vault opens in 4 and nothing is there. I did purchase 4 from the mac app store this morning, have had 3 for some time and really love it, but am extremely frustrated now with no data in 4 and nothing seems to work.

  • Hi @JanetB,

To get some information about your setup of 1Password, could you please email us a Diagnostics Report from your Mac, along with a link to this discussion, to: support+forum@agilebits.com

A brief comment here mentioning that you've sent the report would also be helpful. Thanks in advance!

I am sending in the Diagnostics report as requested. I have no idea how to link this discussion. Looking forward to getting 1P4 up and running. Janet

  • Hi @JanetB,

Thanks for sending the Diagnostics Report! :)

I've taken a look, and have some instructions for you. First of all, it appears you have two instances of 1Password mini running — let's remove one:

    • Please open Terminal (Applications > Utilities).

    • Copy and paste the following line into Terminal, and press return:

      launchctl stop 2BUA8C4S2C.com.agilebits.onepassword4-helper

    • Then copy & paste this next line into Terminal, again followed by pressing return:

      launchctl remove 2BUA8C4S2C.com.agilebits.onepassword4-helper

    • Then copy & paste this next line into Terminal, again followed by pressing return:

      defaults write com.agilebits.onepassword4 KeepHelperRunning 0

    • Then copy & paste this next line into Terminal, again followed by pressing return:

      defaults write com.agilebits.onepassword4 ShowStatusItem 0

    • Then empty the Trash on your Mac, and restart the Mac entirely.

Next, let's get your data into 1Password 4. It appears that you use Dropbox sync in 1Password 3, but version 4 is trying to get data from iCloud. Please try the following:

    • Open 1Password, go to 1Password > Preferences... in the menu bar, then click on the Sync tab.

    • Is iCloud sync currently enabled? If so, click Change Syncing... and disable iCloud sync.

    • Then, setup Dropbox sync.

      • From the diagnostic report, it appears that you'll want to select the data file at: ~/Dropbox/1Password.agilekeychain

Please let me know if that helps! :)

I had a similar issue: When I launched 1Password 4 and unlocked it with my master password, the vault was empty.

After searching for alternatives, I dragged my 1Password 3 1Password.agilekeychain (from ~/Library/Application Support /1Password) to 1Password 4.app and it set it up as a synced vault or something. I canceled syncing, since that's not what I want, but it looks like all my items are now present in 1Password 4.

Is there any problem with going forward having done this?

FYI, I've used the unsupported USB sync tool, so that may be a cause. I had used the link to install my webstore license key for 1p4 per the website directions. I restarted the Mac, and then that license appeared in 1Password 4. I'm not sure if there was any extra text in the 1Password 4 login screen when I first launched it. I'm sure that all I did was enter my master password.

This can't be the user experience you intended for 1Password 3 (3.8.21) upgrades. What went wrong?

    Hi @gracion,

It sounds like 1Password 4 may have incorrectly detected 1Password 3 data during the setup process. I'm glad to hear all your data is there now.

If you'd like to email us a Diagnostics Report, per @JasperP's earlier instructions in post #3, we can take a look for and help you resolve any potential issues going forward plus get a better idea of why the upgrade didn't go smoothly. Including your forum username in the email with that report would also be helpful. Thank you!

Thanks sjk. I now have two vaults, "Primary Vault" and "1Password Vault". Primary contains my 1password license key and the other contains all my items from 1Password 3. How do I safely get to having 1 vault? I'll send the report.

    Hi @gracion,

I'm sorry you've ended up with unwanted multiple vaults after the 1Password 4 upgrade. After analyzing the Diagnostics Report we'll email you instructions specific to your situation for getting that sorted out.
