I am having the same problem. After installing 1Password app Version: 4.1.1.90 on Chrome/34.0.1847.116 it keeps on telling me "Looking for the 1Password app. The 1Password app must be installed for the extension to work properly."

Hi @iapad,
I've split your comment into its own thread, since your question is regarding 1Password 4 for Mac and the previous topic dealt with the 1Password 3 extensions. Let's try reinstalling the 1Password 4 browser extension for Chrome.
Please follow these steps:
- Open Chrome.
- Type chrome://extensions in the address bar and hit return.
- Click the trash can next to the 1Password 4 extension and remove it.
- Restart your Mac.
- Launch Chrome and visit the following page: https://agilebits.com/browsers/index.html
- Click the big green button, and confirm the installation.
This should help the extension find the app.

I'm having this exact same problem. Every time I click the chrome extension button, I get the Looking For... message and it looks like 1password mini (in my os x menu bar) restarts. I removed the extension, and even removed 1password itself. I then rebooted, went to the app store and re-downloaded and installed, then installed the extension again. Same issue.
This is the latest 1password, and the lastest chrome (stable)

Hi Mark,
I'm sorry you're having trouble getting the 1Password extension working with Chrome. Are you able to open and unlock the main 1Password application okay?
Please take a look at troubleshooting tips in this guide to see if any are applicable:
If you're still stuck after that, please send us a Diagnostics Report from your Mac, along with a link to this topic and your forum username, to support+forum@agilebits.com. A quick comment here mentioning that you've sent the report would also be helpful so we can keep an eye open for it.
After analyzing the report to isolate the cause of this problem we can more specifically suggest how you can fix it. Thanks in advance!

Yep the app works fine. It's just the extension that isn't working. Currently I have to go to the 1P Helper in the menu bar, search for a site, copy the PW and paste it into the browser. The helper has an Add Chrome Extension link in it, but clicking it just brings up the page to install the extension, which doesn't work.
If I click on the 1P icon in Chrome, a new tab opens, pointing to https://agilebits.com/browsers/welcome.html with:
Looking for the 1Password app
The 1Password app must be installed for the extension to work properly. I'll get a diagnostic report in, though 1P app works fine.

I'm not sure mine is working correctly either. Diagnosis has been emailed. Thank you in advance!

I'm having the same problem in chrome. When I click on the toolbar button, it tells me it's “looking for the one password app.” I've been running one password in Firefox fine for years. I reinstalled the password from your above link–same problem. When I went to download the diagnostic reporter, (https://cdn.agilebits.com/dist/1P/mac/util/1Password4Troubleshooting.zip) it tells me that the webpage is unavailable!

Yeah the machine I originally had the problem doesn't do it anymore, but that's because I removed the Proxy app I was using on that machine. My home machine started exhibiting the same problem recently, after I upgraded to Yosemite. As long as I shut off the proxy before hitting the icon the first time, everything is fine (even when I turn the proxy back on). It's just the initial time that's an issue.

Hi @Mark Badolato
We have a page on configuring proxies so 1Password can work, does this page help at all?

Sorry for not replying until now, can I ask where we stand in relation to your issue?

I can try the proxy config when I get home tonight. I'll keep you posted

Still not finding the app.

Hi @jonnyy
Please note that the link I have isn't the same one as above, you should be able to download this one.
I'd like to ask you to create a Diagnostics Report from your Mac.
Then attach the entire file to an email to us: support+forum@agilebits.com
Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forums, but please do include a link to this thread in your email, along with your forum handle so that we can "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report in our inbox.
A short note here once you've sent the Report in will help us to keep an eye out for it. :)
Once we see the report we should be able to better assist you. Thanks in advance!

That's great to hear, I'm glad you've managed to tame your proxy and now have a behaving 1Password extension

I found problem - it was my proxy server! Now I connect direct through NAT and all works fine!
