Automagically ask to save new passwords

If I log in to a site for the first time, of course I want 1password to ask me to save it. However, I don't want 1password asking me to save a login that it just filled for me. Why would I need to re-save the login that I just used, via 1password? (thank you Steve)

I copied this from one of the threads that was still open. I can't find the thread.

If I turn off " automatically ask to save new log ins", then I don't have this feature. So therefore I want it on. But it should be only asking me to save "new " log ins. Instead it asks me every time I sign in to anything. That is so annoying.

    Hi @antielinda‌

I'm sorry for the annoyance here. Are you using 1Password to log in to these sites? Please let me know the steps that you are taking to log in to a site, just so I can better understand things. We've had an earlier bug where 1Password was a bit zealous in asking to save new Logins, but this bug has been squashed, so 1Password should only be asking to save Logins that don't already exist in your database ... unless the app is locked when you are entering your data. If your database is locked, 1Password cannot tell that you already have a Login saved, and will prompt you to save.

    Hi @antielinda,

Let's go through specific steps that trigger this problem so we can better understand and fix it. After clicking the 1Password key icon in the Chrome browser toolbar:

    • Do you select a Login item that opens a page?
    • Then 1Password fills the fields and submits it?
    • Then a 1Password Save Login window like this appears, prompting to save another new Login for the same page?

Please let us know where there's a difference, if any, in what you're doing and the result. And is this repeatedly happening for every site that you're using 1Password with? If you can post any examples of pages (URLs) where this is problematic we'll take a look at them here.

Thanks in advance for the additional information!

Today is the first time I had to reset a password since I received this email. I reset the password using 1password without any problems. Like above it asked me to save the password immediatlly, which is what I expected, I clicked save. Then I was asked two more time to save the password, both times I clicked not now, because from experience if I do that, I get multiple saves on 1 Password.

    Hi @antielinda,

I'm sorry extra 1Password autosave/autoupdate prompting is still troublesome for you.

In the recent case you just described, did the 1Password autosave/autoupdate window appear three times in a row right after you did a password reset/update? And you clicked Save the first time, then Not Now twice after that? Was information in the window the same each time? Can you post the URL of the site/page where this happened?

    Thanks again!

    Yes

Was information in the window the same each time?

The window that popped up was only the window asking me to save the password. I did not check to see what password it was trying to save, so I don't know if it was trying to save the same password.

This has happened to me before so I didn't think that it mattered what URL I was on.

The sign on page was https://deliciousrewards.leancuisine.com/public/home.pg

    Hi @antielinda,

To confirm, it's a 1Password Save Password like this that popped up three times in a row?

And never a password save prompt like this in Chrome?

Thanks for your patience and help with troubleshooting this problem.

    Thanks for confirming that, @antielinda.
