I was looking through the documentation and couldn't find this, though I'm sure someone mentioned it to me in a previous correspondence.

I was told that 1Password mini

Sorry, I was testing it while typing and hitting enter in 1Password mini submitted the question without me finishing it.

So what I wanted to ask was:

What does hitting enter on an entry in 1Password mini do? I thought it copied the password into the clipboard but it doesn't seem to do that. Any way to configure that? This is especially useful when I'm not in a browser. For example, when I'm logging into different servers through the command line, I have to search for the login, then use the arrows to navigate to the password field, and finally hit enter. It'd be nicer if enter did it right away.

My second question was is there a hotkey to anchor the entry that is highlighted in 1Password mini?

After you've used the arrow keys to navigate to your server entry use the right arrow key to bring up the entry's details (left closes the details window if open). Focus is moved to that window and you can then move down to the password section and press enter to copy the password to the clipboard. So it's a couple more key presses than you were hoping for but it can all be done via the keyboard.

    Hi @emeryamiller‌

Thanks for taking the time to write in here! It sounds like @littlebobbytables‌ has already given you a pretty good alternative keyboard based solution for accessing your data, but I just wanted to explain a bit more about what 'Enter' does in 1Password Mini.

When you select an item in 1Password Mini and press 'Enter', you are telling 1Password to "go and fill".

    • If you are on a webpage with form fields, 1Password will attempt to fill your data in the fields it finds there. (This clearly won't work too well if you're testing filling on a forum page, as you've found out!)
    • If you are on a webpage with no form fields, 1Password will open the URL from the Login in a new tab or window (according to your preference) and fill your details.
    • If the browser does not have focus (if you're looking at another app), 1Password will switch to the browser and open your URL and fill your details.

Unfortunately, due to the design of the operating system, 1Password is not currently able to fill details directly into apps that are not browsers (and browsers must have the browser extensions installed to be able to fill.) The suggestion above of using the arrow keys to navigate to the information you wish to copy is your best option here. You can also use the anchor button in the bottom of the item's details to pin the info to your screen so you can easily copy and paste, if you prefer.

I hope this helps, but we're here if you have any further questions or concerns!

    Hi @emeryamiller,

The Shift-Command-C (⇧⌘C) shortcut will copy the password field of an item selected in 1Password mini. The Command-O (⌘O) shortcut will anchor the details view of an item selected in 1Password mini, once the details are displayed. Those and other newer keyboard shortcuts are mentioned in this blog post:

    And this article has more:

    1Password 4 keyboard shortcuts

Command-0 and Command-9 were removed so they wouldn't conflict with newer builtin Command-[0-9] vault switching shortcuts.

Would it be possible to have the mini to copy the password of the selected item (if there is any) to the clipboard when the user hits enter and the browser is not in focus? I use the new mini functionality a lot for various passwords in Terminal, and the extra navigation is a pain.

    Hi @Killeri,

Thanks for that suggestion; I'll pass it along to the developers. However, it would conflict with current Go & Fill behavior.

At the moment using Shift-Command-C (⇧⌘C) (noted in my last reply) instead of Return (⏎) to copy the password field should save extra navigation.

    Hi @sjk,
Thanks for the Shift-Command-C shortcut, that is awesome, and helps in 90% of the cases.

The Command-O shortcut is great for leaving the entry anchored, but I seem to loose keyboard focus at that point, so I can no longer use the arrow keys to get to the first field I'm copying.

My use case is connecting to github, where the console will prompt me for both the username and password. So I can use 1 password mini to get to the entry, and then type Command-O, but from that point forward I'm back to using the mouse.

Two suggestions at this point (for this workflow):

    1. Maintain the keyboard focus in the anchored window (not sure if that's possible across os's), so that keyboard navigation still works for the first copy.
    2. Have 1password mini remember the last record that was searched. This way just hitting the 1 password mini shortcut will bring up the old record and using the arrow keys I can navigate to that previous entry quickly and grab the second field I need from it. This would be similar to how 1 password mini works when a browser is in focus, and the top suggestions are those that are relevant to the url in focus.

    Hi @emeryamiller,

Glad to hear those shortcuts are useful for you!

It's intentional that input focus doesn't switch to an anchored details window so that data copied from it can be immediate pasted into the current foreground application. Also, having more than one anchored details window open would complicate input focus issues.

1Password mini not retaining the previous search or item selection state, and the active search when switching vaults, are already known issues in our tracker. I've noted your interest in having that functionality; I'm personally interested in it, too. :)
