Multiple Wi-Fi sync to iOS Devices

I have spent several hours combing through the different threads and various searches... I have seen similar situations, but not quite as specific as my scenario and I'd like to detail it here and determine whether I am indeed stuck or if I have options.

My setup is this...

Home Windows PC - Multiple Vaults (Personal, Secondary Personal & Enterprise)
Work MAC - Multiple Vaults (Personal & Enterprise)
iOS Devices - Would like Personal and Enterprise (and would be great to have secondary personal as well)

NOTE: I would really rather not use outside sync sources (ie. Dropbox, iCloud, etc.).

I am currently using Folder Sync in order to use a Synology DiskStation (CloudStation) for my sync. The sync works quite well between the Windows and MAC. Since there is no way on iOS to do the Folder Sync, I have been using the WiFi Sync from my Home PC.

When trying to do WiFi Sync, it lets me choose it from either Vault, however when I attempt to WiFi sync from my iOS to Home PC it only lets me sync my primary vault (well, one single vault for sure).

When I go into IOS to "Add Vault" it only gives me an option for dropbox and nothing else.

Is it true that the WiFi Sync will only support a single vault? Or, is there something esle I can do here.

I am still in trial mode, and so far really like what I see... however, if I cannot get both vaults to my mobile iOS devices, I'm not sure this would be worth the investment of time or money to convert from my other solution. I spend a great deal of time mobile/in the field and really would need to rely on those files being present.

  • As you've discovered, the only way to currently sync secondary vaults is via Dropbox and like yourself I don't want to sync via cloud services. My solution is a slightly clunky sequence of merging and then splitting of the secondary vault for the purposes of WiFi syncing but I don't expect it to be to most people's taste. Mostly it works because my secondary vault has a small set of tags that between them cover all the entries.

    1. Copy all the entries from the secondary vault to the primary.
    2. Sync.
    3. Select each secondary unique tag in turn and move all those items back to the secondary vault. This could be minimised down to one tag if you tag all entries with something like "2nd vault" or such.

It works but I know it isn't for everyone and you also lose the separation the secondary vaults give you.

@littlebobbytables Thank you for the quick reponse... That seems like a logical approach... however, my vaults are changing often and therefore seems i'd have to do this process each time the secondary vault changes to keep in sync?

  • You would yes. Mine don't change too often or at least with additions that I'm too concerned about having on my iPhone so it doesn't feel like a massive pain. If yours change frequently then I can see how this would be less appealing. The process itself isn't too bad though but like yourself I'd like to see a local syncing method that is completely automated and syncs everything :)

  • Hi @DaMan613‌ & @littlebobbytables‌,

We have some improvements in the works to make Wi-Fi sync a lot better, especially for your use cases. I can't say when they will be ready yet, but you'll love them. (Sorry for being a tease. :P)

Hi @chrisdj‌, thanks for the response. As for the tease... as long as it's a technology tease and not a sales tease I'm good :) Sales tease could be years, tech folks tease is usually within months (less than a year). :D I am quite happy to hear that WiFi sync will get better and will try (try try try) to be patient.

@littlebobbytables‌, Glad to see I'm not the only one out there looking for this.

  • @DaMan613‌ Purely a technology tease.
