Password Generator feature request/s

One place that I've found that 1P falls short is in the password generator. (Image #4)

I've recently had to deal with a number of different sites that have strange (and frankly stupid) restrictions on password. We've all seen them:

"Must contain upper, lower, digit, and one of '?.,!@'"

Almost every password that I generated in 1P violated the special characters for this site.

The KeePass password generator allows for a much more fine-grained configuration of the generation rules. It's similar to 1P in some ways (set the length, whether to include digits and symbols, dis/allow ambiguous characters, dis/allow repeating characters), but it also allows you to do something like "Use alpha-numerics, plus XYZ arbitrary characters", or add spaces, high-ascii bytes, or even to disallow some characters if you know they violate a specific site's rules.

The "Preview" pane they have is quite handy, but not strictly necessary.

My vote as well, especially an option to generate pronounceable, and thus possible to remember, passwords. My understanding is that three or four random dictionary words are superior to the gibberish currently generated. See http://xkcd.com/936/

    Hi @RMerkel‌

That's one of my favourite xkcd comics! :) You're talking about Diceware passwords, which have the advantage of being strong and easy to remember (and type). We've heard many requests for a Diceware generator for 1Password, and I'm happy to add your vote to the request in our internal tracker.

    +1

Many sites I deal with won't work with the current password generator. I would love to see an password generator with a list of checkboxes of character types to use (symbols, numbers, uppercase, lowercase, etc) and perhaps a minimum number of characters for each (e.g. I need 14 characters total, >= 2 uppercase, >= 2 symbols, >= 1 numeric).

Or perhaps to keep it simple, just add another radio button the the current generator recipe panel which covers numbers & symbols.

    Hi @jim0020,

Thanks for the feedback! Some of the options you mentioned are already included in the password generator. When using the password generator, expand the section for the "Password Recipe" and make sure the option for Pronounceable is UN-checked. You can choose how many digits and symbols to use.

I found a site today that insists on a solely numerical password. I cannot find any way of manipulating the recipe to just use numbers. Not sure whether it is me being stupid or a genuine lack of (a dumb, but necessary) feature.

Yep, totally not possible with current generator options.

    Hi @amjbrown,

As signe mentioned, the password generator doesn't currently have an option to create a numerical-only password. I'll be happy to let our developers know you'd like to have that option. Thanks for letting us know! :)

    Hi @Ancillas,

I hope you don't mind, but I've merged your message into this thread for similar requests. Thanks for letting us know you'd like to have some options like that in the password generator! I can't make any promises, but I will add your comments to the feature request.

If you need anything else, just let us know! :)
