Bought 1Password some days ago... Now it's free

Me too, as I spent over 50$ just a month ago for the OS X and iOS versions. Sure, the upgrades for free for us because we paid 50$ already, but they are only 10$ for everyone else joining now. Some sort of refunds would be welcome.

Hi guys. 1Password for iOS is now free for everyone—but if you already bought it, you get the Pro Features (normally $9.99) at no charge. So you essentially have the same app you had before, with all its features unlocked, in addition to all the new features of 1Password 5. See more in the Pro Features FAQ.
1Password for Mac continues to be priced at $49.99 and is not affected by the change we've made to the iOS app. If you have more questions about any of this, we invite you to email us: support@agilebits.com. Thanks for sharing your feedback!

So we paid $14-20 for the app, and you changed to a freemium model to get more users to download the app, then get them to upgrade to Pro features. Smart marketing plan, but frustrating for existing users.

Thanks Mitch for the clarification that only the iOS version freemium. Also, I bought the OS X app from agilebits.com and not on Mac App Store. Is there way to convert it to Mac App Store one? What are the pros and cons? I just read on iCloud syncing troubleshooting pages that it works only with Mac App Store app (weird!, but I assume this is due to Apple restrictions). but I would appreciate if you could help me switch.

I was curious what the "Pro" version offers?

For a description of the pro features see this page in the iOS user guide.

raamana: We're working on a way to help web store users switch to the Mac App Store, but we're not quite ready to talk about it yet. Don't worry though—if you want to sync with iCloud, we won't leave you stranded. :)

Oh man, I'm very disappointed with you (agilebits) now, I just bought the Mac App store version for $49,99 because your website said I should buy that version if I wanted to sync with iCloud. I could have upgraded my old version 3 for just $24,99. But I needed the iCloud sync so I had no choice.
So what you are saying here is: I did the wrong choice even if your website says the exact opposite? So I just throw 15 dollars out the window?
And that information I find here, burried in the IOS forum. ???0 -
Sorry. Should be:
"25 dollars out the window" (not 15).Btw. Any way to get a refund ? (Since it was agilebits wrong advice ?)

Hi @jbtme,
I'm so sorry to hear that you're feeling disappointed right now. Our website is correct - if you want to use iCloud sync, you do want to purchase 1Password from the Mac App Store. Unfortunately, the App Store doesn't provide a way for us to give discounts to existing users the way we can on our website, but we don't want to leave you feeling like you tossed $25 out the window.
If you send your receipt for 1Password 4 for Mac in to our team at support@agilebits.com and reference this thread, we'll be sure to take care of you. As Mitch says above, we don't leave users stranded. :)

Thanks Megan. I am much happier now. :)

I wished I would have notice this thread before deciding to go with the MAS version just to use iCloud sync. I'm eligible for education pricing and could have gotten a the Mac & Windows license bundle for the same price. Misfortune aside, I'm still jazzed about using 1Password and proud to support Agilebits and the their mission.

I feel like there is still some confusion here... If you want to sync with iCloud, the Mac App Store version is the version you should buy (as stated on our website). Discounts and upgrade pricing from our store do not apply to Apple's Mac App Store, unfortunately. We have no way of discounting the App Store pricing. Thanks!
If you bought from our store in the last 30 days and want to switch to the the Mac App Store, please send us an email and we'll issue a refund which you can put toward purchasing the App Store version.
If you bought from the Mac App Store and for some reason would like to use the version from our store for some reason, you can install the web store version alongside the App Store version and it will detect your purchase.
But this is the iOS forum, so let's get back to that. :) If you have further questions about Mac please feel free to start a thread in the Mac forums or send us an email.

This is brutal. If you purchased the 4 from the Agile website - the free upgrade to 5 is different the the one purchased on the App store. Infact. you cannot sync via iCloud. Which is a step back to version 3......

Apple has made the new iCloud sync technology, CloudKit, available only to purchases from their store. Their sync service, their store, their rules. Not ideal for a company like ours that sells the same products both through Apple and through our own store, but it is not uncommon for stores to offer perks to differentiate themselves from all the other stores selling those same products. That is what Apple has done with iCloud. They are giving folks more incentive to purchase from them rather than from any other source.
