Migrate from 1PW3 to 1PW4/5 on iOS?

I'm currently using v3.6.5 and would like to migrate to v5. In addition, I have v4 installed but not yet set up. When I choose "Import from version 3" on launch of v4, then choose "Open 1Password 3", and then (in v3), choose "Migrate to 1Password 4", the modal disappears but nothing else happens. Should I just update my v4 to v5 - would the migration work then? I'd appreciate any guidance here. Thanks.

    Hi @alanp,

I'm so sorry to hear that you're having trouble getting your data from 1Password 3 to 1Password 4. Unfortunately, it looks like you're missing an update on 1Password 3 for iOS that will make this import process much simpler, so we're going to have to do a bit of fancy footwork here, but we should be able to get this all sorted out for you:

    • On the old 1Password 3 for iOS, do a backup of the data to your computer. This will create a .1ptbackup file, which can only be restored to 1Password 3 for iOS.

      http://help.agilebits.com/1Password_touch/backup.html

    • Go to App Store > Purchased (on iPhone go to App Store > Updates > Purchased) and search for 1Password there. Make sure it appears in your purchase history. If it does not, stop here and reply to me.

    • If 1Password 3 does show in your purchase history, close the App Store, then delete 1Password 3 for iOS from the device. Now Reopen the App Store and go back to the purchase history.
    • The old icon should be visible with a cloud icon next to it. Tap the cloud icon to re-download.
    • Open 1Password 3 for iOS, and set up the same passcode and Master Password as you had before.
    • If you get prompted to import, tap that you will do it later, but do not tap that you never want to see the prompt again.
    • Restore the .1ptbackup file according to the restore instructions in the previous link.
    • Close both 1Password 3 for iOS and 1Password 4 for iOS from the multitasking view. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5137
    • Launch 1Password 3 for iOS, and tap that you want to begin the import when you are prompted.

This should get your data into 1Password 4, and then you can run the update for 1Password 5. If you hit any snags in the process, please let me know - we're here to help!

Hi Megan - only 1PW v5 shows up in the "Purchased" list, with the "Update" button beside it. No sign of 1PW v3.

    Hi @alanp,

Thanks for getting back to me! Have you recently changed your AppleID? You will need to be logged in to the App Store with the AppleID that was used to purchase 1Password 3 in order to see it in your purchase history.
