Safari 7.1 issue (Mac OS)
All ... I just upgraded to Safari 7.1. And, when I did, my 1Password "key" icon disappeared. I was able to re-install the Safari Extension for 1Password and got my little "key" icon back. However, when I attempt to access a website that I have passwords saved for, I get the following error (see attachment). Any ideas how to "clean up" my latest Safari 7.1 install and get my 1Password features back up and running as I had? Please advise. Thanks all in advance for your help!

Although your problem appears to be not identical to that mentioned in this thread do any of the solutions mentioned in that thread help?

Well, those did not seem to work. I uninstalled the Extensions from within my browser. (note: I also completely deleted Safari from my Virtual Machine and from within Windows). So, all I am left with is Mac OS Safari 7.1. I reinstalled the Extension via the Menu path Safari > Safari Extensions. Found 1Password. Downloaded. I now see the Extension in my Safari > Preferences > Extensions. 1Password 4.2.4. And, I now have the 1Password "key" icon available on my brewer page. I've closed and restored Safari. Again, when I click on the little "key", Safari opens up another tab, and gives me the message in the screenshot attached above. The message again: "There is no application set to open the URL onepassword4-extension://activate/Safari. Search the App Store for an application that can open this document, or choose an existing application on your computer." Now, I have the 1Password application loaded on my Mac also -- Version 3.8.20 (build 31499). Any ideas .... ???? Thanks again.

Based upon what you just said and that is you have v3 of 1Password installed. Based upon your initial screenshot you are try to install v4 of the browser extension.
Those 2 will not work together, the v4 extension only works w/ v4 of the 1Password app and v3 of the extension on works w/ v3 of the 1Password app.
If you would like to install v3 of the extension then please look here. https://agilebits.com/extensions/mac/index.html

I have a similar problem. I just updated to Safari 7.1 and the 1Password4 extension stopped working.
after updating Safari, I noticed all extensions were disabled by default (and 1P button in the toolbar missing)
I went to Preferences and turned the 1P extension back on. The 1P button reappeared as expected. but pressing it does nothing. I even tried manually unlocking the 1P main app just in case that did anything, but no help there. I don't get the error message the OP mentioned, it just does nothing at all.I uninstalled the 1P browser extension, quit Safari and restarted it, then reinstalled a fresh copy of the extension from your website (v4.2.4 - same version I was running successfully before).
still no difference, pressing the 1P button on the toolbar does nothing.
please help! 1P is broken after updating to Safari 7.1 - prior to updating 1P was working fine
p.s. I just noticed that if I go to the main 1P application and try to "open and fill" a website login from the app itself, it opens the webpage but does NOT fill the login info as it normally would. So 1P4 in general seems broken with Safari 7.1
I am using 1P4 v4.4.1 (441008) on my Mac, OS X 10.9.50 -
OK. Issue resolved! I uninstalled all extensions. And, following thightower's direction above, installed v3 of the extensions. I made sure that I saved the extension file to my desktop. Right clicked and opened with Safari (mac). Installed. And, all is now good! I hope others who are having challenges will get this resolved as I have. Good luck and thanks alls for the advice!

update to my post above - as I described above - for several hours yesterday 1P was dead (both browser extension, and filling from main app) , every time I tried it, even after reinstalling the extension.
Several hours later last night, somehow it started working again suddenly! No idea why or how. I did not quit Safari, or reboot or reinstall the extension again in between it being broken and starting to work again - so no idea what triggered it to start working again, other than the passage of several hours of time. I think I might have switched to the login window using fast-user-switching once, however that may be coincidental so I can't say if that triggered 1P to work again...
Very strange, but anyhow things back to normal now

I'm having the same problem with all my extensions. When I quit and relaunch Safari they are all gone. Specifically with 1p I'm using: Safari Version 7.1 (9537.85.10.17.; OS 10.9.5. 1Password 4.2.5. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Kit

Hi @kitmos
Sorry for the delay in responding. If this issue is happening with all Safari extensions it seems something has gone a little wrong with Safari. Here's what I'd like you to try (you'll probably want to copy these steps into something like TextEdit or similar).
- In Safari export your bookmarks via File > Export Bookmarks..., your Desktop is probably a good location.
- Close down Safari completely.
- Open a Finder window and use the keyboard shortcut ⇧⌘G and paste into Go to the folder: text field
~/Library/Safari
- Drag that Safari folder to your Desktop.
- Reboot your Mac (this is important due to caching issues)
That should hopefully leave you with a completely bank copy of Safari. Now if you install fresh copies of your normal extensions does the problem still exist? If it doesn't then in a rather blunt fashion I think we've at least found one solution. If it did work the one thing you're probably missing quite keenly will be your bookmarks which is why we exported them. You can import them via File > Import From > Bookmarks HTML File... and pick the file you created in step 1.
If those steps didn't improve your situation you can revert to your old profile by following the steps again but drag the new Safari folder in
~/Library
to your Trash in step 4. and then before step 5. copy your Safari folder on your Desktop back into the~/Library/
folder. The reboot is probably still required due to the caching issues. If you have any concerns or queries then please post back here and we'll do our best to assist.

Thanks. I did try this already and it didn't work. However I did finally find the solution that worked for me:
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Use the search box in the toolbar of the Keychain Access window to search for an item named "Safari Extensions List". If found, delete it. Quit Keychain Access.
Quit and relaunch Safari.0
