Login Opens Default Safari Window [resolved; use Safari's "New windows open with: Empty Page" pref]

I double click on the AMEX login (or any other login). I get the AMEX login page but in addition the default safari page, in my case the New York Times, also opens up. Sometimes the login is entered on the AMEX login page. Sometimes not. In every case, I have to close the New York Times page. Why is 1-Password opening up the default safari page? I'm using 1 Password 4 and am up-to-date.

    Problem solved by changing the Safari preferences General tab "New windows open with:" to "Empty Page" from "Homepage;."
