Master Password reported incorrect when syncing via iCloud

I purchased 1password yesterday and input around 50 login information in it. Now as I am changing to a new phone, I backed the info up in iCloud and erased the old one (before erasing I double checked that the iCloud sync was turned on and master password was the one that I remember). However, now when I am holding my new phone, 1password is able to locate the backup file on iCloud but when it asks me for the master password to unlock, it keeps telling me the password was incorrect, which I am SO sure was not. Can anyone please help me out with it? It's kind of urgent. FYI, my master password looks like "AAAaaa.111", including capital letters, small letters, ".", and numbers

btw, both phones run iOS 8, so I don't think the operation system is an issue in this case

  • Hi @BrianZhu‌

Do you have a Mac? If so you can download the trial version of 1Password for Mac, set up iCloud sync, and try unlocking from there:

    Thanks.

Well, thanks for the suggestion @bwoodruff‌ . I just did, funny thing is on my mac, 1Password could not even find the backup information on iCloud. I use the same iCloud account on all devices, and my mac is running the latest Maverick system.

Can you please check the ~/Library/Mobile Documents folder on your Mac to see if you see 1Password data there? This is a hidden folder, so you'll need to access it from Finder > Go > Go to Folder.

    Thanks.

No, I cannot, I even turned on the hidden folder option with Terminal, there is no 1Password data there. However, when I tried to recover the data from iPhone, it says it can find the data, but only need "Vault Password" to unlock 1Password data, the hint is the one that I left for Master Password though. I am confused, are these two the same thing? or there is a different "Vault Password" I shouldve set up when backed up the info with the previous phone please? I appreciate your prompt response. Thanks @bwoodruff‌

The vault password is your Master Password, yes.

The fact that it doesn't appear iCloud has synced any 1Password data to your computer is concerning.

I am having exactly the same problem -- shows the correct hint, but does not recognize the master password for syncing. I can open the IOS 1Password app with the Master Password (set on the Mac app), but it will not recognize the master password to sync over iCloud.

I bought 1Password from the Mac App Store:
"1Password Version 5.0 (500019) Mac App Store" I set up a new account and Vault with a Master Password. I then downloaded IOS 1Password onto my iPhone. The IOS app was able to find the vault on iCloud, but will not recognize the Master Password. It gives me the correct hint, but will not recognize the password. After 1) changing the Master Password and (2) redownloading the IOS app, I was able to sync over WiFi. However, it will still not recognize the MasterPassword to sync over iCloud. I am running OS X Yosemite (10.10) and IOS 8.1

    Hi @memalakoff‌

I'm so sorry to hear that you're having trouble getting everything synced up! Now, there are a few very basic things that we need to check before we get into the more detailed troubleshooting:

    • Please ensure that you are logged in with the same iCloud account on all computers and devices. (If you're like me and have somehow collected several, this could be where things are getting tangled!)
    • Please ensure that 'iCloud Drive' is enabled for iCloud on all devices.

Once we've confirmed that all your settings are as they should be, let's try resetting sync to see if that gives things a kickstart.

    • On your iOS devices, open 1Password for iOS, tap Settings > Sync > Sync Service and tap 'Disable Sync’.

    • On the Mac, open 1Password for Mac, and click the 1Password menu, then Preferences. Click Sync, and click Change syncing.

    • Check the box to remove the data from iCloud and confirm that you want to disable sync.

    • Restart the Mac and iOS devices.

    • On the Mac, go back to the Sync preferences, and enable iCloud.

    • Go back into the iOS app and re-enable iCloud sync. It should work this time.

Please let me know how this works!
