So, since I've commented before, I just thought I'd give an update. Its now been over a week since I disabled background refresh and I don't recall seeing any unexpected prompts for the master password. I probably don't use it quite so heavily as some others do (I tend to spend most of my day at the mac w/ 1Password 5), but I'm sure I launch 1Password on my 6+ at least once or twice a day.

Hello everyone! I just wanted to report that I still have not experienced any unexpected Master Password prompts on my iPhone nor my new iPad Air 2 (background app refresh disabled on both). I think we narrowed down the cause of the issue!
I wonder, does 1Password perform any tasks in the background anyway? I don't recall items syncing in the background but I could be wrong.

Now that 1Password 5.1.1 is out for iOS, can you update to that and turn background refresh back on to see if it is fixed for good?
For Dropbox sync, we do use background refresh feature to sync your changes but it might be reduced due to the issues it's causing at the moment. However, we want to give it another chance as it should be fixed now.

Hmm, that might be something we need to test. I wonder if the background refresh is causing our app to not recognize Dropbox is not being used and that's causing the app to fail back to the master password.

Ditto, the issue seems to be tied to Background App Refresh being on for both iCloud and Dropbox sync. I didn't have one single issue after turning it off previously.

Thank you @ahankins and @dbingham for your reports! You are indeed correct that when 1Password performs a background refresh there were times when it would wipe your Master Password from the keychain, causing you to have to enter it again the next time you launched 1Password. We believe we have fixed this issue for 1Password 5.1.2, which we submitted to Apple for review this morning.

Hi everyone! I have updated to 5.1.2 today on both devices and have background app refresh ON. Will report back after a bit & let you know how it goes!

I have tried all of these suggestions and have NEVER had 1Password prompt me for my touch ID. It always asks for the master password. iOS 8.1. 1Password Version 5.1.2. Touch ID on. iCloud keychain on.

I've read the user guide, the faq, the threads. 1Password is a great app, but for me the touch ID feature has been a monumental fail and a waste of time.

I'm sorry you haven't been able to get Touch ID to work in 1Password! You said that Touch ID is turned on, but I'm not sure if you're referring to being on in the Settings app (under Touch ID & Passcode) or in the 1Password app (in Settings > Security). Can you confirm it is turned on in both places?
Please also check to make sure you've set up Touch ID in 1Password by following the steps here.
If it still won't prompt for Touch ID to unlock the 1Password app, can you confirm that you're able to use Touch ID to unlock the device or to make purchases from the App Store?

I just wanted to report that since updating to 5.1.2, I have not experienced any unexpected Master Password prompts with Background App Refresh turned on. If I do, I will report back here but otherwise I will consider this issue resolved! A big thanks to the 1P team, you guys are great at what you do! This attention to detail and quality is one of the reasons why I love this product so much.

I spoke too soon...for whatever reason, TouchID is now working perfectly with 1Password on my iPhone 6 and it really enhances the product. Thanks!
