Can anyone else view attachments in 1Password for iOS 8 version 5.1?

Can't view attachments in and don't remember ever being able to on my iPhone, but support says I should be able to. I read try resetting sync,so, I did and deleted iCloud data, per instructions, and still no joy. Has anyone else been able to view attachments on their iPhones? Thanks for the feedback.

Yes, I can view attachments with iOS 8 and 1p5.1. You can only create them on the Mac, tho, if this helps.

  • Thanks for the assist, @rlgleason51‌!

still trying to view attachments on iOS device, iPhone. when I select the attachment to view it says "loading" but after 5 or 10 minutes I give up and back out. Maybe I'm not waiting long enough and its a bad internet connection?

Attachments come up very quickly for me in version 5.1. I can't see any reason why the quality of your internet connection would be related to this. The data are on your device. To confirm, I turned off wifi and achieved the same result.

Sorry I don't know what may be causing your issue.

    Hi @tinkerer33‌

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble viewing attachments in 1Password 5 for iOS. Could you tell me a bit more about these attachments?

    • Are they particularly large in size? (There is a 5MB limit on file size for attachments on iOS)
    • What format are they in? The iOS needs to be able to open/read the file format in order to display the attachment. (For example - Windows .doc files may not display)

Please let me know if this is the case for all you attachments, or just one or two. It might also be a good idea to add a fresh attachment (say a nice, reasonably small .jpg) and see if you are able to view that.

Thanks for your help in tracking this issue down!

I just got 1Password for the very reason to be able to view attachments in entries. Only when syncing with dropbox can I get it to work. The wifi sync does not make the img icon or "show attachments" show up in my iPhone (ios 8.1.1), nor does the icloud sync option, strange.
I use 1Password for windows and 1PW 5.1.2 for ios

    Hi @Coooolguy,

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble with attachment syncing.

The wifi sync does not make the img icon or "show attachments" show up in my iPhone

Attachment syncing from Windows (v4) to iOS (v5) via Wi-Fi sync is only supported if you're using the newer .opvault format for your vault on Windows.

nor does the icloud sync option

iCloud sync is not available on Windows.

Only when syncing with dropbox can I get it to work.

Glad to hear it's working correctly when syncing via Dropbox. :)

Please let us know if you have any other questions. We're always happy to help!

I too have this same issue. I use 1Password (iPhone 5 - IOS 8.1.2 using 1PW 5.1.2) and (Windows 8.1 Pro using 1PW 4.1.0.530). I am new and want to only use the WiFi sync; never set up any other method. I elected to use the new .opvault format when I installed my first vault. Still this does not work--file seems to be there but not decrypting when selected on the iPhone. For example, I can drag a .PDF (2 MB in size) into the Windows 1PW and open it or save it to disk fine per manual. WiFi sync appears to go normal but when I try to open the .PDF on my IOS phone - opens a blank document.

    Hi @TEN

As a sanity check, can you try opening the following PDF from your iPhone please

    http://productivityist.com/wp-content/uploads/The-1Password-Emergency-Kit-V3.pdf

then download it to your Windows machine and add it to a test Login item. Go through the steps and see if it also opens up a blank document.

It's odd that 1Password is showing you that there is an attached file and even attempting to open it. I'm wondering if there is something specific about this PDF file that the iPhone is struggling with. I've picked that PDF simply because I knew it existed and I could test with it myself.

Please do let us know how you get along.

Sorry for my delay in responding. I used IE 11 on my Windows 8.1 Pro machine to download your PDF and it opened fine. I also downloaded it on my iPhone using the Safari default browser--it opened fine there too. Then I did the same test on a login item with the same result--PDF opens with no error and is blank. I had another thought. I use Windows 8.1 running over Parallels 10 running over OS X Yosemite (10.10.1). The Yosemite is set to use Filevault2 encryption on entire disk. No encryption is set in Parallels or Windows 8.1 Pro. I never set those since I was always worried about encryption within encryption issues--maybe that is the issue here?

Update. I just performed the same exact test on my PC running Windows 8.1 Pro with encryption turned on (Bitlocker). Running the test on my other PC, as opposed to my Mac, removes Parallels and OS X as possibilities. By the way, I run my 1PW using a IronKey USB drive for the location of the opvault file--in case this matters.

    @TEN‌

So 1Password 4 (with the opvault on an IronKey Flash drive) running on Windows 8.1 in Parallels 10 running on Yosemite isn't Wi-Fi syncing attachments with iOS 8.

Syncing attachments is still pretty new in 1Password 4 for Windows so there is the possibility of a bug here. Assuming you're up for helping with the troubleshooting we'd be interested in knowing if you can reproduce this using a second test opvault in the exact same setup, so also on your IronKey. We just want you to throw together a couple of junk items with no real data but include attachments. Now this request is quite involved in that you'd want to wipe your iOS device before syncing this test vault and wipe it again before 'restoring' your real vault when you sync the proper one again.

As you can see, it isn't something for the faint-hearted but given your set up I think it's safe to assume you're willing to try things out. If you're not happy to do so we completely understand as well but sometimes it's hard to replicate the configuration a user so the first part is replicability.

I appreciate the opportunity to test but wiping my IOS isn't something I really want to do. Keep in mind the same issue occurred while running 1PW4 on a regular/non-Mac Windows 8.1 PC--but I did set up the original vault on the Mac/Parallels platform.

Meant to also say maybe the other person with the issue could comment more.

My apologies, it has been pointed out that I didn't make my post clear enough and that is my fault.

    When I said:

… wipe your iOS device …

    I really should have written:

... clear the data from 1Password for iOS. You can do this using an option in 1Password which you can find in 1Password > Settings > Advanced > Erase Data and Settings.

There is definitely no good reason for us to suggest wiping the entire iOS device in this instance so I do apologise for allowing such an interpretation through my choice of words. Of course you may find that still isn't something you want to be part of and we would understand.

1Password 4 for Windows beta 518 listed as "new" the ability to sync attachments to 1Password 5 for iOS over Wi-Fi in .opvault vaults, but that new feature did  make it into the next stable built, 520, and has not been added to subsequent releases.

Thanks, are you saying the attachment feature is not working at this time?

  • Syncing attachments using Windows<->iOS via WiFi is not supported at this time.
