1Password locks whenever screensaver is activated, regardless of setting

The title kind of says it all. I'm using 1Password 5 on Yosemite. Even with the "lock on screen saver" box unselected, 1Password will lock immediately whenever the screensaver activates. The only way it will stay unlocked is if I keep the 1Password application itself always running. If it's just 1Password Mini that is active and I lock the screen, the vault immediately locks itself. It's extremely annoying.

    Hi @gordon9293,

With Lock when screen saver is activated disabled, is 1Password locking when the screen saver activates automatically, manually, or both? Is Lock after computer is idle for … enabled and what is its value? What is the Start after: … time for System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver > Screen Saver set to? And how are you determining 1Password is being locked by screen saver activation?

It's possible to configure those settings so will appear that screen saver activation is triggering 1Password locking, while it's actually being locked before that. Answers to questions above will help determine if that could be happening in your case or if we need to do further troubleshooting to isolate the issue. Thanks!

    I figured it out.

A bit embarrassing, really. It so happens that the keyboard shortcut I use to lock my screen (via screensaver activation) is the exact same one that 1Password uses by default to manually lock.

Best we pretend this thread never happened…

    What happened, @gordon9293? :)

Glad to hear you figured it out. Sorry for not asking to check for a possible shortcut conflict. Thanks for letting me know that's what it turned out to be.

    Cheers!

Sorry for dragging this out but I cannot understand what to do.
When using AirPlay with iTunes videos, 1Password lock the screen every 20 minutes. Watching a video I get up and go and start everything over.
    My settings are:
Screen Saver Start after 1 hour
Lock when screen saver is activated is disabled
Lock after computer is idle 120 minutes

I would greatly appreciate any help.

@Micronerd‌ Why do you think 1Password is locking your screen? The preferences are about 1Password locking your vault based on what the screensaver is doing, it doesn't influence how or when your actual screen locks.

    Hi @Micronerd,

I'd love to hear a bit more about what you're seeing here. As @littlebobbytables‌ says, 1Password can't lock your entire screen. The lock settings can be set based on when your computer's screensaver activates, but the only thing that 1Password has the power to lock is itself.

    Hi, @Micronerd‌

What OS are you using, and what are your Energy Saver settings?

At some point (I think it was when Mavericks was introduced) Apple changed the way the screen saver kicked in. It once was prevented by any mouse or keyboard action or any hard drive activity. But now hard drive activity does not prevent screen saving.

Many programs got modified so as to prevent screen saving when they run. For those that don't there are several menu bar programs to do this - I use Wimoweh.

Thanks for all the responses. I just installed Yosemite OS 10.10. with the previous settings it did shut down all the windows and I had to start with the computer (account) login. All previously open windows are closed and need to be reopened. I have been working to get AirPlay started with success but after 20 minutes, it shuts down. I have to open the account computer login), open iTunes again, set up Airplay, and input my 1password to unlock it. I seem to have several conflicting things going on at once.

    Hi @Micronerd,

If we're talking about your entire computer shutting down, the issue is likely in how you have your System Preferences set up, outside of 1Password. As mentioned above, 1Password has no control over AirPlay and iTunes, or anything else other than itself.

Could you please take a screenshot of your Security Preferences in 1Password? There are instructions on how to take a screenshot here: http://take-a-screenshot.org/. Simply click the document button in the top of the comment field, and select the file you wish to share:

Attached hopefully is the screen shot you asked for. I'm sure I am using the wrong terminology. When I said the computer shuts down I think I should have said sleeps or shuts down. I really appreciate your time and effort.

    Hi @Micronerd,

Based on your 1Password settings, 1Password won't auto-lock until you log out of your account.

It is likely your energy settings are set to sleep the computer after 20 minutes. To find out, go to the Apple Menu on the far left of your menu bar on top, select System Preferences and click on tap on Energy Saver. Check the settings there to adjust when you want the computer to sleep. If you're on a laptop, you should see two tabs, one for your battery and one for the power adaptor.

    I hope that helps.

Thanks so much to everyone that helped. It seems to be better without doing much of anything.

  • On behalf of all involved, you're welcome @Micronerd‌!

Hi, I'm having a similar problem with autolocking. No matter what the autolock settings are (even with everything unchecked) One Password 5.02 is locking whenever I hit "save" after entering a software licence. Additionally, on launch it was showing a splash screen for half a second then it would lock. I managed eventually to click quickly enough on the splash screen (some sort of Welcome to the upgrade thing) and kept it open. Having fixed that one, I can't fix the second problem with the Save-lock. Very frustrating. Yosemite, Macbook Pro 2009 with upgraded SSD. Any ideas?

    Hi @mjaxtens‌

That sounds like a far more significant problem then auto-locking to me.

I recommend closing down 1Password and 1Password mini which you can do using the keyboard shortcut ⌃⌘Q when 1Password is open.

I would then drag every copy of the 1Password application that you have to the Trash. Empty the Trash and reboot. Download a fresh copy of 1Password from the same location you purchased it and see if that makes any difference. Just to be clear, manually dragging the 1Password.app to your Trash won't touch your vault while using an app uninstaller might - that's why we don't recommend them.

Whether it does or not do please post back here.
