Can you tell me if Touch ID works on the iPad and if not, if it is on the way?

Thanks

  • Hi @yunus,

There is no code change needed for the iPad, it will use the same code as the iPhone. TouchID already works on the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3.

So how does it work exactly. All I could ever find was how cool it was to have, but not a step by step guide to activate it as a feature and use it. How do I use it on my iPad? Is it for logging into the 1Password App or when using 1Password with Safari or another app? Do I need to active Touch ID somehow in my iOS first? Thanks,

You do have to activate Touch ID in the Settings for your iPad before you can then elect to also use it in 1Password.

    Hi @yunus,

Assuming you're using an iPad that has Touch ID, you can setup the Touch ID feature in 1Password by following these steps. As hawkmoth mentioned, you'll need to activate Touch ID in the Settings app on your iPad first, in order to use it in 1Password.

Thanks. I finally tracked down to find that Apple does not offer the Touch ID to my iPad even though I bought it less than 2 years ago. I found this list of what devices it works

on and I have the 4th generation iPad which is what came up before the iPad Air. Lame. Thanks for your help.

Yeah, I have an iPad Air (not Air 2) and I don't have access to Touch ID either. :(

  • Hi @yunus,

To use Touch ID, your device must have a fingerprint identity sensor built-in. Only the iPhone 5S+ and latest generation of iPads include this, unfortunately. I'm glad to hear you got things figured out. :)
