Copy and Paste Functionality in iOS 8
I think this is an Apple IOS 8 issue but hopefully posting here will help get this resolved. First of all I am using a iphone 4s and an 1st generation iPad mini. Both of these devices are running iOS 8.0.2 and the** latest version **of the 1Password app for iOS. The devices have been restarted more than once from a complete power off.
When using the copy paste feature of iOS 8 to copy a password from the 1Password app the password is not copied correctly. When I copy the selected password to a log in field it is not copied correctly. What I have found by copying the information in memory into the Notes app is that the previously copied password is in memory but not the latest copied password. This is particularly problematic as you cannot see the password being loaded into a field as it is usually asterisks. I see that others are having similar issues with a google search and reddit postings. Are you all aware of this problem and do you know whether Apple knows and is working to fix it? Thanks!

Latest version of iOS 8.1 is being used not 8.0.2. Thanks!

When you say "not copied correctly," what exactly do you mean by that? I'm unable to reproduce an issue. I launched the 1Password for iOS app, located a login, copied the password to the clipboard, and then opened the Notes app and pasted the password into a new note. It worked as expected.
Are you sure your clipboard isn't being cleared by the 1Password > Settings > Security > Clear Clipboard feature before you're able to paste it?
Thanks.

I'm having exactly the same issue with exactly the same hardware/software combo. Copy and Paste works fine on the phone in general, but nothing will copy out from 1Password. Has been this way for a week or so. Clear clipboard not even enabled.

Hi @BlissfulGopher,
I've tried to copy/paste passwords to other apps several different ways, and I can't reproduce the problem - it works as expected every time. Can you please let us know the exact steps you're taking to copy & paste a password? Please be very specific - for example, are you copying from an item in Categories, Favorites, or the Organize section? Do you swipe right on an item in the list and choose Copy Password, or do you view the item, then tap the password and choose Copy? Or some other way? The more details you can give us, the better chance we'll have of reproducing the issue. Thanks!

No worries, my usual approach:
Unlock 1Password
Go to either Favorites or search in Categories usually (same problem either way)
Select the login
Tap on the password
Select Copy
Switch to the required app/webpage and paste in
This has always been the way I've used 1P. It just stopped working sometime in the last couple of weeks. I've tried with clipboard clearing both on and off, and also reinstalled the app, with no change.
Now, interesting thing: I had no idea you could swipe right and copy, and guess what, when I tried that just now, it worked. BUT, it worked only once. It then resumed failing to copy, using either method.
Incidentally, iPhone 4S 64GB running 8.1. 1Password 5.1.2 with Pro unlocked. 810 items in vault. No jailbreaks or anything weird. Using DropBox for sync.

Good morning @BlissfulGopher and @canaanskier. Sorry for the trouble you're having copying passwords out of 1Password, that's not cool. I have a couple of questions to clarify things:
@canaanskier: You said "that the previously copied password is in memory". Do these steps accurately describe what you're seeing?
- Start with two items, A and B
- Copy the password from A
- Copy the password from B
- Paste the password from B into Notes
- The password from A is pasted instead
@BlissfulGopher It sounds like you're having a different set of circumstances where nothing copies out of 1Password (unless you use the swipe menu and even that only works once). Is that accurate?

Hi, I've only been using '1password' for around 8 hours (i.e. I'm currently slowly making my way through adding endless websites etc lol); however I know that IOS 8.1 (latest) has ongoing issues regarding the copy/paste clipboard which functions sporadically to say the least. After hours of frustration I turned to installing an app called 'Clips' after reading an article by 'FEDERICO VITICCI' on www.macstories.net:
http://www.macstories.net/reviews/clips-review-actionable-clipboard-management-for-ios-8/
I've relied upon this completely so far as it seems to work flawlessly by subverting the standard clipboard (although I only use the widget and not the keyboard because of the inherent security risk etc).
Anyway sorry for the tangent, but if your having problems pasting data that works for me - but further to the above I can also confirm that the 'paste to clipboard' function which occurs when you save a new password out of edit mode doesn't appear in the system clipboard (but I'm a newb to 1password so I'm unsure if it's actually just supposed to be available in 1browser?) I haven't got as far as looking at that yet ha ha!
So to recap, when anything appears on the clipboard (i.e. A copy action) it appears on the widget list in 'Clips'; but when 1passport reports its copied/buffered a newly created password to memory, clips doesn't report it as existing so I have to manually SELECT ALL -> COPY -> PASTE into Clips myself by brute force. This has worked continually for the last 30+ websites - whereas 1passport seems to consistently not post the data to the clipboard - but as I say again; I'm a total newb and know nothing of this app - so it's likely just me who is a goof and doesn't understand its magical ways yet!
Anyway I hope the inane babble above is of some vague use to someone, regardless '1passport' rules and has already stolen 8 obsessed hours of my life ha ha! I love it, brilliant developing guys/girls - I'm glad to have found it! ;)

Sorry forgot to mention that I'm using an iPhone 4s too which struggles with everything to a greater or lesser extent considering every app is optimised for 5+ now, so perhaps its modest processor speed and memory bandwidth etc is more prone to memory glitches although the copy/paste issues seem to span far and wide on the web; but its only early days for IOS 8 and I think it's awesome regardless! :)

'Clear Clipboard' is set to 'Never' for me too (sorry only just clocked that comment)...
I tried the 'swipe to copy' approach mentioned earlier in this thread too and that doesn't register on the clipboard either - I wonder if it's a 4s thing (with regards to having more issues with 1passport)?

Hey there, IOS 8.1.1 update is here and amazingly it is targeted at performance/bug fixes on the iPhone 4s and iPad 2! This is awesome and could potentially solve a lot of the problems users (like myself) have been experiencing with memory functionality such as copy/paste et al - kudos Apple and less frustration for developers such as 'AgileBits'! Well I only just updated my 4s but I'll be sure to test the areas mentioned above and see if there is improvements/changes etc, and report back later in the day - but it's good news regardless! Take it easy all :)

One thing that is certainly immediately sure about the new IOS 8.1.1/iPhone 4s update: 1Password is way faster - it only takes me 1 second to open it now as opposed to 4/5!

Hey @ElectricWombat, thanks for the plethora of information here. I'm sorry for the trouble you're having copying passwords out of 1Password. Has that been better behaved with iOS 8.1.1? If not I can open a bug report and take a look. Let me know!
(Awesome forum name, by the way ;) )

Hey @MrRooni, thanks for your reply and for your kind words he he :) I laugh every time I see the profile picture bubble of that cute little varmint! Further to your enquiry regarding improvements with these issues since updating to IOS 8.1.1 I can happily/confidently say that I've done everything I can think of to try and break '1Password' (i.e. With regard to attempting to reproduce Copy/Paste memory errors) and it performs faultlessly on my iPhone 4s! Based upon @Drew_AG 's comments regarding providing specific details I ran the following tests this afternoon:
MODEL: iPhone 4s (not jail broken)
OS: IOS 8.1.1
1Password: Revision 5.1.2 (Free version)1) Repeated alternate copying from catalogues/favourites via swipe -> select Copy -> paste into 'Notes' to verify buffer is replaced consistently AND repeat copying of same data to check for memory leaks (i.e. Reverting back to previous buffer etc) - pass
2) Repeated alternate copying from catalogues/favourites via select item -> single tap password -> select Copy -> paste into 'Notes' to verify buffer is replaced consistently AND repeat copying of same data to check for memory leaks - pass
3) Repeated copying from catalogues via edit password/save (i.e. Automatic copying of password into buffer on exit) -> paste into 'Notes' to verify buffer is replaced consistently AND repeat copying of same data to check for memory leaks - pass
4) Repeated alternate copying from catalogues/favourites via Edit -> double tap to edit password -> single tap -> select all -> copy/paste into 'Notes' (i.e. Without saving to avoid auto copy) to verify buffer is replaced consistently AND repeat copying of same data to check for memory leaks - pass
*This last check is more for iPhone 4s/IOS 8.1.1 in general than 1Password alone
That's every test I could think of and there wasn't a single error (performed many times); although I did realise through this that the previously mentioned app 'Clips' is to be disregarded with thought to previous comments as it deals with copying data in a different way (i.e. It doesn't appear to have access to the copy buffer in 1Password) but it's a third party app so it's irrelevant to the test.
So to conclude, good news, it appears that the previously mentioned copy/paste glitches seemed to have been tied to IOS 8+ and the latest 8.1.1 update seems to have done wonders for this OS running on iPhone 4s - which is awesome news right!
Will just have to see if any other users have any related issues which will likely differ subject to platform but it's great to see everything running smoothly and '1Password' performing great! :)

That is indeed one cute little varmint! :)
I'd like to echo @MrRooni's thanks for providing such a detailed report - it's awesome to have such dedicated users helping us out here.
I'm also glad to see that 1Password passed all the tests you threw at it. Here's to hoping that 8.1.1 continues to behave nicely (I'm off to install it on my iPad 2 and I hope that I get a bit of wonder there as well!)
If you have any further questions or concerns, do let us know - we're here to help! :)

Hi @Megan thanks for your reply, which is very much appreciated and I'm glad you like the varmint ha ha :D I'm happy to help and contribute as its a fantastic forum, the level of support is excellent and it's wonderful to have so much direct contact with the development team! I hope the iPad 2/IOS 8.1.1 update goes we'll for you! :)

Thanks for the kind words - I've passed them along to the rest of the team so that they know their hard work is appreciated (we love to hear that!) ... and so far so good with iOS 8.1.1 :)

I have this issue as well (8.1.2 - iPhone 6 Plus). What I've found is that single words in a secure note cannot be copied, but if I select the entire text - it works. Not sure what to think of it?

Hi @JohnAgger,
I'm just trying to reproduce your problem here. If I do this:
- select a note in 1Password
- tap Edit to edit the note
- Tap on a word to bring up the editing popup menu
- tap Select in the popup menu
- tap Copy
- Open the Notes app and paste it in a note
Then it works fine. Can you try those exact steps, and let me know what happens when you paste it into note. If you get nothing, try copying a word from somewhere else (web page, other note in Notes app), then repeat above, let me know if the word from somewhere else pasted into the note, or nothing at all.
Thanks,
Kevin0 -
Good afternoon @JohnAgger. Can you give me a little more detail about what exactly it is you're seeing? Are you using the latest version (5.2) of 1Password?

See also this thread (which is about being unable to copy & paste individual parts of note fields, and secure notes, as opposed to the entire note).

Hi,
Suddenly with the latest update to iOS 8, log-ins will not allow the paste function for the password. Instead of the usual "copy, paste, select" menu, one is offered only "copy, define" and there is apparently no way of putting down the complex password except manually. This is excessively tedious. Is there a solution or a workaround? (I have booted the iPad several times but the problem persists.)Emintaka

Hello @emintaka,
I am having a bit of trouble reproducing the behaviour you are describing. Can you tell me a bit more about you situation?
- What version of iOS are you running on your iPad?
- Do you know what version of 1Password you have?
- Is this an existing login or are you creating a new login?
- You are saying that you want to paste information INTO the password field of a login, and it only gives you "copy" and "define" options?

Thank you, Nathan, but the problem is resolved. My son, bless him, has sorted me out. The difficulty arose from the fact that I was not utilising the latest iOS Safari extension, which now apparently blocks attempts to manually paste in a password. Comes from not reading the simple directions. Sorry to be a nuisance.

Glad to hear everything is sorted out. But I think you mean the MAC extension. :)
