1Password Freezes on Login

When I type my master password to open 1Password keyboard entry becomes progressively sluggish until after the 6th or 7th character the keyboard completely freezes. The unlock icon is the only part of the screen that is still active, but of course authentication fails because the password is incomplete. All other apps are working normally. I am on the latest version of the app and iOS.

  • Hi @NigelW,

Can you tell me the following:

    1. The type of iOS device you're using and if you have more than one, does it happen on all of them?
    2. Which iOS version is this? The latest version for iPhone 4 would be iOS 7 and the later devices would be iOS 8, so it is best to list the version numbers instead
    3. Can you try rebooting your iOS device if it is running iOS 8 to see if this fixes the issue

    Thanks!

I'm also having the same issue. 1pw becomes slow and freezes at login. If I kill the application and login again the application is fine. This started with the upgrade to ios 8.
    1) iPad2
    2) 8.1.1
    3) I've rebooted

    Thanks,
    Steve Sanders

  • Good morning folks. Sorry for the trouble you're having with the lock screen becoming sluggish. We haven't been able to reproduce this one internally, so any information you can give us will help a ton with tracking that down. If you are able to get past the lock screen at any point, can you send in a diagnostic report? You can follow the instructions here to do so: https://guides.agilebits.com/1password-ios-kb/4/en/topic/send-us-your-diagnostic-report

Please do not post your report here, but do let us know what the generated unique identifier from your support email is so we can look it up. This unique identifier is described in the instructions linked above.

Another thing I would be curious about is what happens if you let 1Password sit for a few moments when it gets sluggish? Does it recover?

I've been trying determine whether the freezing problem was anything to do with Dropbox because at the time I first experienced it Dropbox was doing a large number of photo uploads. I have now halted those uploads, but the problem still occurs. There does not appear to be any particular pattern. 1Password will work fine for days and then start freezing. I have tried a variety of things to try and remove the freeze, rebooting, deleting and reloading the app, but to no avail. Only a lengthy time (several hours) of not using the app seems temporarily to cure the problem and then it will suddenly work fine for days. One symptom of the problem I have observed is that the app is not able to change from landscape view to portrait view. Normally I open the app in landscape and if freezing is about to occur then rotating the screen causes half of the keyboard to be lost off the side of the screen, rather than changing to fit the format. I will try get the additional information requested by MrRooni. The information requested by MikeT is as follows:
    Device = iPad model MD514B/A
    iOS version = 8.1.1
    Dropbox version = 3.6
    1Password version = 5.1.2

    Hi @NigelW,

The problem with the keyboard is actually a bug in iOS 8 (one of our developers has filed a bug report with Apple about it). We've heard of this happening in a few other apps as well. That will need to be fixed by Apple. I don't know if the keyboard issue is related to the freezing problem you're having with 1Password, but there are a few things you can try to get the keyboard working again, at least temporarily:

    • Double-click the Home button and swipe up on 1Password to close it, then reopen it.

    • If the problem is happening in landscape mode, try reopening the app in portrait mode (or vice versa).

    • If that doesn't help, restart your iOS device (hold down the power button for a few seconds and "slide to power off", then turn it back on again).

If you try those things to help with the keyboard problem, does it also help with the freezing?
