Can't get iOS and 1P5 on Mac to sync via DropBox - item mismatch [Resolved]

Hi --

I'm trying to get my wife's iPhone and MacBook configured to sync 1Password via DropBox.

  1. Sync the two devices via wifi. I assumed this should end up with the same number of items in each, and as far as I can tell they both have 390 items.
  2. Turn sync off on both devices.
  3. Enable sync via Dropbox on the MacBook.
  4. It asks me to find the Dropbox folder, which I do.
  5. Wait for DropBox to finish synching.
  6. Enable sync via Dropbox on the iPhone iOS app
  7. The iOS app asks me to pick a keychain location within Dropbox. There is only one option and I select it.
  8. The iOS app then indicates that it cannot merge because the iOS version has ~1,000 items it it, whereas the DropBox version has 390 items in it.

The only thing I can think of is that there were ~610 items in the Trash on the Mac version of 1Password. I emptied the trash on the Mac and then repeated the above steps (including an initial sync via wifi), but get to the same result.

Any suggestions on how to debug this further? I can't seem to find anyplace in the iOS app that allow me to view and/or empty the trash.

Thanks,

Ramon

  • Hi there,

Does your Mac have all of the latest data?

    Please let me know.

Yes, insofar as a wifi sync between the two seems to have been successful.

  • @felciano Let's try a sync reset to put the latest data on Dropbox.

    1. Open 1Password on your Mac and unlock your vault.
    2. Open 1Password's preferences by choosing 1Password > Preferences... from the menu bar
    3. Click on the 'Sync' tab
    4. Click the 'Change Syncing...' button
    5. On the sheet that appears check the 'Delete data from Dropbox' checkbox and then click the 'Disable Sync' button.

1Password will remove your synced data from Dropbox. Once it completes you should setup syncing on your Mac again and wait for the Dropbox app to finish uploading the new synced data. After Dropbox has finished you should try setting up syncing on your iPhone again.

Let me know how that works out for you and if there's anything else we can do to help.

    Hi @MrRooni‌ and @bwoodruff‌ --

Sorry about the delayed response -- just got back from Thanksgiving holiday. I tried the steps suggested by @MrRooni and it still doesn't work. Here's what I see:

    1. After I unlink 1Password on my Mac from DropBox and tell it to delete all the data, I confirmed that "1password" does not appear in a file or folder in my DropBox folder.
    2. I then went to 1Password > Preferences... > Backup and clicked Backup Now. It says 394 items have been backed up.
    3. I then check the 1Password Trash and confirm that it is empty.
    4. I also confirm that in the main UI window it reads "All Items (394)"
    5. It then go to 1Password > Preferences... > Backup and click Sync With > Dropbox.
    6. It asks me to "Click here to find the Dropbox folder...", which I do
    7. It tells me "1Password will create a copy of your vault in Dropbox. It should become available on other devices in a few minutes".
    8. I click "Create New", and wait for the Dropbox icon in the menu bar to stop spinning.

I now try to activate Dropbox since from the iPhone 6:

    1. Settings > Sync shows a "Start Synching" button, and underneath reads "Items 394"
    2. Start Syncing > Sync with Dropbox asks me to pick the DropBox account to use. I do so.
    3. It asks me to "Choose a vault..." with only one option: "1Password/1Password.agilekeychain". I choose that option.
    4. Busy icon shows up indicating it is downloading keys
    5. I then get the same "Vault Mismatch" error. If I click "More Info" it indicates that the iPhone 6 has 394 entries, and the Dropbox Vault has 398 entries.

What is weird is that if I go to DropBox / 1Password / 1Password.agilekeychain / data / default (by right clicking and choosing Show Package Contents) I see 1049 files in the directory, not 394 like I expected. Is that normal?

Any further suggestions on how to debug this further?

    Thanks,

    Ramon

  • Good morning @felciano. I also just returned from a Thanksgiving holiday. Late last week we found and corrected a bug in the Vault Mismatch where it was showing incorrect numbers. Also, the agilekeychain format does store extra files from time to time, so you may be seeing the results of that. Did you try and merge the vaults? What numbers do you see in 1Password on iOS now?

    Hi @MrRooni‌

I did not yet try to merge the vaults. Would you recommend I do that? Thanks again for helping on this.

    Ramon

  • Yes, please make sure you have a backup and then give the merge a try. :)

So far so good! I think we can consider this resolved as the issue appeared to be the display glitch. I'll re-post if something crops up again. Thanks for your help!
