My 1P apps installed in both Ipad (running iOS 8.1) and Iphone 6 (running iOS 8.1.1) do not accept my dropbox password, which I know is correct as I log to dropbox from my laptop.

    Hi @Juan Carlos Valverde

1Password 3 for iOS is no longer able to synchronise with Dropbox due to a change in their API.

You're in luck though as 1Password 5 for iOS is available as a free product with a in-app purchase for additional features should you love the program. So no reason to restrict yourself to 1Password 3 for iOS now

    I hope that's a reasonable solution.

I had the same problem as Juan Carlos so thanks for the suggestion - unfortunately I seem to have a problem getting 1Password 5 for IOS - when I go to the app store it indicates my apple account already has the 1password application (even though it is Version 3.6.1). It does this by showing the cloud symbol to download it again - of course it just gives me Version 3.6.1 - What is the mechanism to get the new version from the app store?

@MikeRe‌ are you running iOS 8? You need to be on iOS 8 to use 1P5 for iOS.

Thanks for your response - yes I can confirm that the iPad mini in question is running OS8.1 - the problem remains.

  • Hi @MikeRe‌

Are you viewing 1Password at this link?

I'm not sure how that could possibly give you 1Password 3, as it is an entirely different product from 1Password 3 (i.e. it wasn't released as an update to v3, v3 was discontinued and then this was released).

    Hi @bwoodruff

Thanks very much for your response. What I did was to type your url into safari (rather than going directly to the app store and searching for 1Password). The result was that after a redirect I arrived at the app store and while I still got the cloud symbol indicating that I already had 1P attached to my account the download in fact was the latest version. I have no idea what was going on but whatever it was the result was the one I was looking for. So thanks very much for all your help.

    Hi All,

I am not entirely sure how to drive these forums and whether this is the appropriate place to raise my next problem so here goes!.

I now have a version of 1password 3.6.1 with an active vault that is working satisfactorily except that it does not sync with dropbox.

I now also have a new clean copy of 1Password 5 (latest version).

I have attempted to use the following instructions to upgrade:

                      ****https://guides.agilebits.com/1password.../upgrading-from-legacy-version...****_

I ran the new app (1P5) and commenced configuration choosing to sync from an existing vault.

The instructions indicated that I should then: "Choose the option to import from version 3" .

Unfortunately no such option appears for me - all I get are the three options as follows:

                          Sync with iCloud
                          Sync with dropbox
                          Sync with wi-fi

In other words the fourth option mentioned in the upgrade instructions is not there. I have tried with the 1Password3 app both open and closed with the same result.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

  • Hi MikeRe,

    1password 3.6.1

This would be the problem. 1Password 3.6.1 isn't the latest version of 1Password 3 for iOS, and as such doesn't have the import capabilities discussed in that guide. You'd need to get 1Password 3.7.2. You should be able to do so by opening the Updates > Purchased > All tab and then scrolling to 1Password v3.7.2 and clicking the cloud download button:

    Thanks!

The mystery deepens. I followed your instructions - navigated to 1Password V3.7.2 - low and behold there is no cloud symbol but just an "open" box. - if I click the open box then Version 3.6.1 is opened even though the updates list it as being V3.7.2 - if rather than clicking the OPEN box I click on the title I get an overlay window that is blank saving for never ending ending "loading" statement - if I try to click on another app that similarly displays the "open" box then the overlay box is immediately populated with information about that app - so it appears that there is something about 1password that is confusing the app store.

It seems to me that the app store thinks I have V3.7.2 but the machine thinks it has V3.6.1 - the option that I am not game to try is to delete V3.6.1 even though I have a backup on my PC desktop I am petrified that I will lose the 3.6.1 vault.

    SOme guidance would be appreciated.

  • Hi Mike,

What sort of a backup do you have on your PC? A .1ptbackup file?

    Hi @MikeRe,

Could you please give this a try:

    • If that .1ptbackup file is current (contains all of your data), skip this step. (Though making another backup never hurts.)

    • Delete 1Password 3 for iOS from the device, then go to the Purchased section of the App Store and search for 1Password there.

    • Once you find 1Password 3, tap the cloud icon next to it to re-download. This will download version 3.7.2.

    • Open 1Password 3 for iOS, and set up the same passcode and Master Password as you had before.

    • If you get prompted to import, tap that you will do it later, but do not tap that you never want to see the prompt again.

    • Restore the .1ptbackup file. http://help.agilebits.com/1Password_touch/backup.html

    • Close both 1Password 3 for iOS and 1Password 5 for iOS from the multitasking view. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5137

    • Launch 1Password 3 for iOS, and tap that you want to begin the import when you are prompted.

Please let us know if that helps! :)

    Hi @JasperP‌

    The problem remains.

    You suggested that I:

"Delete 1Password 3 for iOS from the device, then go to the Purchased section of the App Store and search for 1Password there."

I did that but could not find 1Password3 rather all that appears is "1Password - Password Manager and Secure Wallet" This is shown as Version 5.1.2 and indeed downloads as V5.1.2. There is no sign of Version 3.7.2 on my view of the App Store.

  • Mike,

Are you positive you are signed into the Apple ID you used to purchase 1Password 3?

    @bwoodruff‌

Absolutely! - we have only ever used one apple id - I think it might be time to give up on 1Password.

    Hi @MikeRe,

You previously mentioned you were able to find 1Password 3 in your purchase history: App Store > Updates > Purchased > All. (Or if you're using an iPad, you won't need to go to the Updates section, just go to the Purchased section.) That's where you saw the Open button. 1Password 3 should still be listed there, although now it will show a cloud icon next to it. If you don't see it when scrolling through the entire list, you can do a search and type 1Password into the search field (make sure you're searching in your list of purchased apps).

If you still don't see it, did you originally purchase 1Password 3 on an iPhone or an iPad? The reason I ask is because if you originally bought the iPad-specific version of 1Password 3, it will not show up on an iPhone.

On the other hand, if you originally bought the iPhone-specific version of 1Password 3, and you're now using an iPad, you'll need to tap on the iPhone section of the App Store (I believe in the top left) to find 1Password 3.

Please let us know if that helps!

    Hi@Drew_AG

I tried all your suggestions - I cannot recall but it is highly likely that the app was originally purchased on an old iPad that I not longer own. I appear stuck with V3.6 with no ability to acquire V3.7 and therefore no ability to update. It also appears that there is no way to import a 3.6 backup into the new version.

    Mike

  • Hi Mike ( @MikeRe )

an old iPad that I not longer own

The device doesn't matter so much as the Apple ID. You absolutely must be signed into the same Apple ID originally used to purchase or this won't work.

If you have the v3.6 app synced over to iTunes you can check which Apple ID purchased it by right clicking on it, selecting the Get Info menu option, and then selecting the File tab:

It also appears that there is no way to import a 3.6 backup into the new version.

    This is unfortunately correct.

Can confirm the 3.x version of the app definitely isn't available through the app, it doesn't appear under "purchased" anymore. Probably something to do with it being removed from the app store?

I ended up being able to restore the app from iTunes (v3.6.5) which at least works, but the migration to v5 fails. Dropbox sync is broken and there's no way to get 3.7 to migrate to v5.

This is pretty a pretty poor migration story with lots of opportunities for data loss. If you're now unable to provide support for the (paid) v3 app, you could at least add support for v5 to import v3 backups.

  • Hi @tunah‌

I'm not sure why it would show for myself and many other customers but not for you, unless you are now using a different Apple ID.

We have a guide on migrating 1Password v3.7.2 to 1Password 5 available here:

    Thanks!
