How did you try to restore your 1P data to the new phone? Did you previously sync to any other device (a Mac, for example)? Do you still have an iTunes backup from the old iPhone?

    Hi Stephen,
Before i installed my new Iphone, i made a backup from my old phone to Icloud

And i restored it to my new Iphone through Icloud

  • Hi @Alain Timmers

Unfortunately Apple's built-in backup methods do not always do that great of a job backing up app data. For that reason, we have built in a backup / restore feature right into 1Password:

    Thanks!

    Hi,
I'm in the same situation with a new iPhone 6 w/ an old iPhone 5 however my 5's logic board was fried so I obviously can't do an iTunes backup
Are all of my passwords lost for good?
    Thanks

    Hi @slinford‌

So just to understand your situation, you were using 1Password on your old iPhone 5, you weren't doing any kind of syncing, the only backup was in iCloud and the phone is now fried and essentially a small plastic door stop?

    Hi,

That's correct--I was doing regular iCloud backups (and that's how I set up my new iPhone 6 -- when I tried to go to 1Password today and set it up, it said that there was nothing in the Cloud.

I've had to do a few restorations in the past and I've never once had a problem--everything would just restore and come back automatically.

    Hi @slinford‌,

I was doing regular iCloud backups (and that's how I set up my new iPhone 6 -- when I tried to go to 1Password today and set it up, it said that there was nothing in the Cloud.

Just to make sure we're not getting confused over terminology - when you say you were doing regular iCloud backups, are you referring to backing up your entire device, which is a feature found in Settings.app > iCloud > Backup? Or do you mean you had the iCloud sync option set up in 1Password.app > Settings > Sync?

If you were backing up your entire device to iCloud, then restoring from the iCloud backup to your new iPhone 6 should also have restored your 1Password data. But as mentioned previously in this discussion, Apple's built-in backup methods don't always do a great of a job backing up app data. We don't have any control over how the iCloud Backup feature works, so I'm afraid there's not much we can suggest for that, aside from possibly trying again to restore your new iPhone from your iCloud backup to see if it helps.

On the other hand, if you were using the iCloud sync feature in 1Password on your old iPhone, you should be able to re-sync your 1Password data from iCloud when setting up 1Password on the new iPhone. It sounds like you hadn't been using iCloud sync, but let me know if I misunderstood.

If you only ever had your 1Password data on the old iPhone, didn't use the Dropbox or iCloud sync option, don't have an iTunes backup of the device, and restoring from your iCloud backup doesn't restore your 1Password data, then unfortunately it sounds like your 1Password data is gone. But if we've misunderstood any of those things, please let us know and we'll do our best to help get your data back.

Hi, I think I have a similar problem than slinford. I've just restored a 4th generation iPad on iOS 8.1.1 (8.1.2 now) and now 1Password refuses to sync.
    Let me explain it furtherer.

I used to back up the application's data with iCloud Sync: so with the app's syncing system. All my passwords are on iCloud. When I've restored my iPad, I set it as a new device so there was no application's data with a system back up.

Now, my issue is that when I want to download the saved passwords which are in iCloud, the app tells me that there is no data. However, there is! When I go in the iCloud Storage section in the iCloud preference panel, it show me that there are 27.00 kb of 1Password data.

So it seems that the data is in iCloud but 1Password can't get it. I did the procedure: opt-out from iCloud Drive and my iCloud account on my iPad and everything which is on your website. But it don't work: 1Password keep saying there's no data even though there's.

    Your help would be welcome.

    Hi @Clément Cardonnel,

I'm sorry you're having trouble restoring your 1Password data! Is your iPad a different device (i.e. you had been using 1Password on a different iPad or iPhone before), or do you mean you erased your iPad and then set it up as a new device? Out of curiosity, is there a reason you needed to set it up as a new device instead of restoring from a device backup?

You said the size of the 1Password data in the iCloud Storage settings is 27 kb. That's relatively small, so I'm wondering if you had many items saved in 1Password? I would have expected it to be larger than 27 kb, so it's possible your data really isn't there, or perhaps iCloud wasn't finished copying all the 1Password data to the restored iPad. If you go back to the iCloud storage settings now, does it still show 27 kb for 1Password?

  • It's the same iPad, I just erased it. I wanted to restore it because it was slow since iOS 8. Now it's a little more quick but it did not make a miracle.

Actually, it's 21kb... And I had approximately 30 passwords and 4 note files where there were at least an other 30 passwords. So I expect my data has been lost.

    Hi Clément,

Before you erased your iPad, were you using 1Password 5? If so, and iCloud sync was working before you erased the device, I don't know why it isn't working now. I'm assuming you're signed into the same iCloud account on your iPad as you were before?

Do you use 1Password on any other devices or computers, or just the iPad? If you've only used it on your iPad, did you ever back up your iPad with iCloud or iTunes? If you have a device backup in iCloud or iTunes, you may be able to restore your 1Password data by restoring your entire iPad from a backup. If you try that, please let us know how it goes.

  • Before you erased your iPad, were you using 1Password 5? Yes

I'm assuming you're signed into the same iCloud account on your iPad as you were before? Yes

Do you use 1Password on any other devices or computers, or just the iPad? Just the iPad

If you've only used it on your iPad, did you ever back up your iPad with iCloud or iTunes? Yes, I did but I've deleted the backup before restoring the iPad in order to save iCloud storage space.

I'm just wondering: this 21kb data which is on iCloud. Is it possible to download it and... Say, put it in a dropbox in order to change the way 1Password download the data. What do you think of that ?

Unfortunately that won't work. But we can definitely look further into this to see if it's possible to get your 1Password data back from that 21 kb data file. I'd like to ask you to create a Diagnostics Report from your iOS device: https://guides.agilebits.com/kb/1password4/en/topic/diagnostics-report#ios4

Then attach the entire file to an email to us: support+forum@agilebits.com

Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forums, but please do include a link to this thread in your email so that we can "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report in our inbox.

A short note here once you've sent the Report in will help us to keep an eye out for it.

Once we see the report we should be able to better assist you. Thanks in advance!
