Can I sync my 3rd Vault not with Dropbox but with casual Folder or TheBox folder?

Hi guys! I have created my 3rd Vault on my Mac. 2 Vaults are Synced well with the Dropbox, but I want to put and Sync my 3rd Vault with other Service — TheBox. So, I have created that 3rd vault and put that into TheBox folder. The file "Personal.agilekeychain" have been created, seems everything is good.

Now. On my iPhone6, I have PRO version of 1Pass. There, in Settings, Im trying to add that 3rd Vault, which locates inside TheBox (I have it on my mobile as well), but when Im trying to add that 3rd Vault, all I see is this: "Sync with Dropbox" or "Create Demo Vault".

I guess there must with Sync with Folder or something like that too, right? Is it possible to have Vaults in different places and still sync them with my iPhone? Or I must put all of them inside Dropbox folder and thats the only way I can solve that? Cuz I dont want to keep them together.

    Hi @Roman Sidoroff

Unfortunately, Box sync is not currently supported in 1Password for iOS, and we are unable to offer a general 'Folder Sync' solution like we do on Mac because the iOS framework is written quite differently than OS X. On iOS, there is no visible file system for you to store data outside of an app: all data must be stored within an app. For security reasons, each app is 'sandboxed' which means that it needs permission from another app before it is able to interact with that app, or the data stored within that app. 1Password uses Dropbox's API, which gives us the permission that we need to read and write to your datafile when stored in Dropbox. We would need to specifically implement Box support on 1Password for iOS in order for us to sync to TheBox.

I'd be happy to mention to our developers that you would be interested to see Box support in the future, but for now you will have to use Dropbox for all secondary vaults that you wish to sync to your mobile devices.

I'm sorry I don't have a better answer for you here, but I hope this helps to explain the situation.

Dear Megan, well, but can't I just open a file/Vault, which is stored in TheBox? I mean, just navigate in TheBox to that file, press Open With... and choose "1Pass" somehow? After viewing/editing this file will be saved in TheBox and synced.

Do you know what I mean? Maybe it will be even easier to develop for you guys. Not sure. But still, now there is no way how I can work with Vaults which is stored outside the Dropbox and keep my info synced? Right?

    Hi @Roman Sidoroff

It's a bit complicated, but essentially, 1Password for Mac and iOS don't directly read your data stored in a cloud sync service. There's a copy of your vault in 1Password, and (using Dropbox as an example) another copy of your vault in Dropbox. 1Password syncs changes back & forth between those vaults. So, when you view your data in 1Password, you're not looking at the data in Dropbox. The copy of the vault in the cloud sync service is only used to sync data with the vault in 1Password, and on iOS, that requires us to add support for that cloud sync service's API.

This is probably an oversimplification, but should help to explain why it's not a simple matter of opening a vault from another app on iOS. We would have to program the 1Password for iOS app to support each individual cloud sync service - which is much more difficult than it sounds. There are a lot of things to consider, and plenty of work involved.

Our developers have been exploring other options, but for now, the only way to sync a secondary vault is with Dropbox sync. I hope this helps to clear up the confusion a bit! Please let us know if you have more questions.
