synching: "Connection Refused"

iPhone 5S, iOS 8.1.1, 1Password 5.1.2
MacBook Air OSX 10.10, 1Password 5.0.2

1Password sync with MacBook Air reports this:

Sync Problem
Error Domain=… Code=61… Connection refused

before attempting sync, i went through the necessary steps of activating the application on both devices, the secret word was present (automatically) on my iPhone and pressing 'sync now', etc.

what's up?

    Have you previously successfully synchronised using wifi? If so try rebooting both devices and then trying again.

    If you have not previously synchronised successfully using wifi:

    1. Please ensure both devices are on the same wifi network.
    2. Check there is no firewall app on your Mac stopping communication between the devices.

    If you still have problems please post again.
