Mobile Safari vs 1Browser and others

I have noticed at least 1 difference when comparing mobile browsers. When opening gmail, 1Browser will open it in a desktop site version with tiny text. Mobile Safari will open it in a phone friendly version of gmail. Haven't done a thorough check though.

There doesn't appear to be a way to change modes to be more phone friendly while I'm inside the webmail.

Why the discrepancy ?

An update: I tried it on 1Password 4.5 on my iPad with iOS 7.1.2 and it looks good. My iPhone 5s with iOS 8.1 is having this issue. Is 1P optimized for iPad or iPhone 5

  • @wkleem On iPhone you may want to adjust the user agent for 1Browser. You can do so in 1Password > Settings > 1Browser > User Agent. Setting it to mimic Safari (iPhone) should give you what you are looking for.

@chrisdj, It worked.Thanks. I tried 1Password 4.5 on my iPad and checked the settings. The User Agent was 1Browser by default and it worked properly (mobile Gmail). I don't have access to another iOS7 iPhone to (re)confirm my findings on that device.

  • @wkleem‌ It should work the same on both iOS 7 and iOS 8. I'm fairly certain nothing changed with 1Browser and its agent settings between 4.5 and 5.0.

It seems like a weird occurance to me. Could the Agilebits team look into this issue between 1Browser 4.5/5.1 on iPad and iPhone?

    Thanks!

  • @wkleem Are you saying that changing the user agent to Safari (iPhone) doesn't yield the correct results?

It's a known issue that the 1Browser user agent may not be universally recognized (it simply is not popular enough compared to the larger browsers), which is why we added user agent settings.

What I'm saying is that 1Browser v4.5 works properly with 1Browser as its user agent on the iPad (appears as mobile browser). 1Browser v5.1 fails to recognise the iPhone as a phone browser (becomes desktop browser).

I've tried Safari, Chrome, Opera and they all work properly. I've tried Ghostery 1.4.4 for iOS and it works properly.

Yes, we understand that, what @chrisdj is suggesting as a workaround is changing the user agent to Safari (iPhone). Thanks.
