Some websites, usually banks ask for selected characters from the password, e.g. 1st, 3rd and penultimate. 1Password does not seem to be able to deal with this? Am i correct?

Yes, you are correct that 1Password can't deal with this automatically. I'm not a developer, but I suspect it wold be very hard to design a routine that would be able to pick specific characters, randomly chosen by an external entity, from the password string. I wouldn't be surprised if it's not possible at all.

What many users have done to help with this situation is to enter the password in the notes field and then number each letter under the corresponding character. At least that makes it easier to pick the required characters than having to count off each time you need to do this.

    Something like:

    m y g o o d p a s s w o r d

    1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9, etc.

It doesn't show very well without a monospaced typeface.
