1Password sync problems

I think I've had enough of 1Password after months of sync problems. I have six months of LastPass Premium ready to activate and everything to gain from switching and nothing to lose. With 1Password on OSX10.10 and iOS8.1, both sync via iCloud using the same iCloud account and although the sync is confirmed, the new logins added on iOS are not in fact synced. I have to keep emailing myself passwords in order to login to those newly added website accounts. I have also previously disconnected iCloud from both devices and deleted the data on iCloud.

I have before now sent diagnostic reports for both OSX and iOS but I am still not getting anywhere. I think the reference is #ZPD-72642-425.

I don't know if this should be under Mac or iOS since it concerns 1Password apps on one or both of them.

Currently I’m quite frustrated too with the iCloud sync situation. The only way I can make my iPhone 5s sync is a device reboot. Then it syncs fine for a couple of hours, maybe a day. Then I have to reboot again. 8.1.1 didn’t change anything.

However, on my device, this problem isn’t limited to 1P. Most of my other apps that are syncing via iCloud have problems too. This, and the fact that my iPad syncs flawlessly (fingers crossed), leads me to the assumption that – this time  – it really isn’t the fault of 1P.

My temporary solution (until I stumble across that ultimate hint that finally tells me how to make iCloud sync on the 5s work again) is to use Dropbox. I’m really not a fan of Dropbox and usually try to avoid it wherever possible, but for the moment it does the job.

  • Hi @mot‌

Thanks for chiming in here. WiFi sync may be an option for you as well if you'd prefer to avoid Dropbox:

I'm very sorry that iCloud syncing is not working for you. We'd be happy to help you troubleshoot if you'd like but it sounds to be as if you're frustrated beyond that point now and are simply looking for an alternative solution? If so I'd suggest the same for you... Please give WiFi sync a try:

    Alternatively you can try Dropbox:

Thanks for the WiFi tip, @bwoodruff. I completely forgot about that option. Concerning Dropbox, my “I usually try to avoid it” mainly referred to uploading unencrypted documents. That is, for 1P essentially it doesn’t matter which service I use, as long as it syncs… (though I still prefer iCloud because of the OS integration).

But – maybe – it’s all over now! Tuesday evening, before I wrote the post above, I started one more iCloud resurrection experiment, consisting of a sequence of 3 reboots salted with alternated off/on/off(/on) toggling of Cellular Data and/or iCloud Drive (inspired by posts #37 and #38 of this thread).

Now almost 30 hours have passed, and it still syncs! This is the longest working sync period ever since the trouble started several weeks ago. So, at the moment, I have educated hopes that the beast may be exorcised finally (fingers crossed, again)!

@mot Fingers crossed that it continues, touch wood - you get the idea.

Yep, 72 hours passed and syncing still works (without any further reboot). I guess it’s good now

Apparently the crucial thing was the Celluler Data toggling + reboots, since I’ve done the iCloud Drive toggle + reboots several times before without success.

They really should add this post #38 to the Knowledgebase, because the 8.1.1 update alone hasn’t fixed it.

  • Excellent. Thanks for the update! I'll pass the feedback along to our docs team.
