Gotta new iPad. Now 1Password won't sync across devices

I got a new iPad last week. I 'restored' the new one via iCloud to mirror my old one. Now, 1Password is not syncing. Each device--iPad the Old, iPad the New, iPhone all say the last sync was 7 weeks ago. That's probably when I last manually synced with a new login. My Mac is saying two minutes ago. My phone is the only one with the up-to-date logins. When I click to manually sync, nothing seems to happen and it still says last sync was 7 weeks ago. I saved a backup of my iPhone, but the Agilebits instructions on how to get it out of iTunes seems to be outdated (https://guides.agilebits.com/1password-ios/5/en/topic/itunes-backups)

I'm syncing via Dropbox, but have had it set up to sync via iCloud a few months ago.

What do I do?

  • Hi @hookerjon‌

Please try turning sync OFF on each device, then re-enable Dropbox sync on each device, starting with the Mac. You'll likely be warned about merging, and that it is not recommended. Disregard this, click the 'more info' button, and merge anyway.

    Thanks!

Once I disabled sync and went to merge, I get another warning that the info in the primary vault is different and that there's some vault and vault password. Do I still proceed? I don't want to lose the logins that were seemingly on the iPhone and (maybe) Mac but not on the iPads.

    Hi @hookerjon‌,

That warning appears just in case you have multiple vaults in Dropbox, so you don't accidentally merge two completely different vaults together. If you only have one vault in Dropbox, you can go ahead and merge the data. You'll need to enter your master password for the vault in Dropbox, which should be the same as the one you normally use to unlock 1Password on your Mac and iOS devices.

When you merge, it will simply update 1Password on your Mac with any newer data from Dropbox (and vice versa). Nothing will be deleted unless you specifically deleted it yourself.

If you have more questions, just let us know. Thanks! :)

Ok, I did this on the Mac and iPhone. Now I've got duplicates on the phone. I've not done this on the two iPads. Is there a way to dedupe? Even if I did, is there a way to determine which is the most up to date instance? Or do I get to do this manually?

I was trying to avoid precisely this problem.

  • Hi @hookerjon‌

I'm sorry to hear this process has created duplicates for you. You can sort your items by title, and if there are two of the same you can compare the 'last modified' date to see which is newer.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

Ok, so all are now re-sync'd with Dropbox. There are still discrepencies where one device doesn't have certain logins. WTF?

    Hi @hookerjon‌,

Is it just one of your devices that is missing some Logins, and your other devices are fine? If so, please open 1Password on the device that is missing some Logins and go to Settings > Sync. That screen should show the Sync Service is set to Dropbox (if not, you'll need to setup Dropbox sync). Tap Sync Service and check the file path for the 1Password.agilekeychain file (underneath Current Sync Method / Dropbox). Compare that to the file path shown there on your other iOS devices. Is it the same?
