Watchtower says Last updated: 44 years ago
Running 1Password 5.0.2. In Preferences, Enable 1P Watchtower is checked but it says last updated 44 years ago. When I click on Update Now, nothing seems to happen. I tried unchecking and rechecking the Enable box, but no change...

That's crazy! I just checked mine in the 1Password preferences, and it says I was last updated three hours ago.

This is only a wild guess but is there anything strange about your system clock or time?

44 years ago would indicate that last modified value is set to 0, and isn't being set properly.

Hi @gkgriffith,
I'm sorry that you're encountering this issue. It sounds like a bug to me. I think @MrC is right, too. Since the way we calculate time is usually based on Jan 1 1970 + number of seconds, and 1970 happens to be 44 years ago tells me that we're likely getting 0 back as a time there. Do you think you could create a Diagnostics Report? It should only take a few minutes, and will possibly tell us what's going on as well as what we can recommend to get it back up and running. Email the Diagnostics Report to support+forum@agilebits.com, and provide a link to this thread so that we can connect the dots.
Thanks
Rick

Hi @gkgriffith,
Sorry for the delay. I looked at your Diagnostics Report and it looks to me like for whatever reason the download of the Watchtower database is failing. Are you running anything like Little Snitch or anything that could be interfering with the network connection to our server? Watchtower will only show as enabled and properly updated if it has managed to download the updated database from our server and can read from it.
I also see that it looks like you're probably having issues with Sync. You may want to consider disabling Sync on your Mac and reconfiguring it with the AgileKeychain. That may not fix it though. You may have to disconnect all devices from sync, erase the agile keychain, and then recreate a new one from the device that has the best set of data. It's saying that it's unable to read the objects in the agile keychain which isn't really normal.

Hi Rick,
I just now saw your reply from mid Dec. Thanks! ... I am not running Little Snitch. Are there other apps that might interfere? The problem with Watchtower is occurring on my MacBook Pro, but not on my iMac. The iMac seems to be updating Watchtower regularly. ... Should I remove 1P from my MBP and reinstall it??
As for having sync issues, I've just checked and all my devices seem to be in sync - at least they all have the same number of items.
Thanks!!

Hi @gkgriffith
Any program in the area of firewall, anti-virus, parental control for the internet etc. they could all be a potential cause.
Certainly removing just the 1Password program won't do any harm and given the steps involved you can certainly try.
- Quit both 1Password and 1Password mini. You can do this with the keyboard shortcut
⌃⌘Q
when 1Password is open (it doesn't have to be unlocked). - Drag the 1Password application from your
/Applications/
folder to the Trash. - Reboot your Mac.
- Download 1Password again from the same place you purchased it. So via Apple's App Store application if you're a MAS user and from our AgileBits Download page if you're a Agile Web Store (AWS) customer.
If that doesn't work I'd be interested to know the outcome of the following test.
- Open a Terminal window. The Terminal application can be found in
/Applications/Utilities/
- Paste in the following command
ping -c 2 cache.agilebits.com
and press return.
If the responses aren't making it back then something is wrong. Either it's being blocked or it's a networking issue of another kind. Keep us informed!

OK, I've tried removing and reinstalling 1Password 5 on my MacBook Pro. I first removed only the app and after rebooting the problem with Watchtower saying "Last updated 45 years ago" still occurred. So I removed it again, this time with all support files and rebooted and reinstalled, but the problem is still there.
You requested sending a ping to agilebilts.com, which I did. This seemed to be successful as the ping statistics reported: "2 packets transmitted, 2 packets received, 0.0% packet loss round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 184.745/198.681/212.617/13.936 ms."
I think I've mentioned this before, but in 1P Prefs when I uncheck "Enable 1Password Watchtower," 1P locks and I get this error message:
"2BLJA8C4S2C.cormagilebits.onepassword4-helper unexpectedly quit.
Would you like to send a report so we can fix the problem?"Upon unlocking 1P and returning to Watchtower preferences, the "Enable 1Password Watchtower" box is still checked, even though I had previously unchecked it.
Would it make any difference that FileVault is turned on for my computer? I am pretty sure this problem existed before I enabled FileVault, but I could be wrong. Firewall is definitely turned off.
Any other suggestions? Thanks again!!

Hi @gkgriffith
I can state that FileVault does not impact on 1Password at all, including Watchtower as I'm a FileVault user myself.
I think a diagnostic report might be the way forward, see of the logs show anything.
I'd like to ask you to create a Diagnostics Report from your Mac.
Then attach the entire file to an email to us: support+forum@agilebits.com
Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forums, but please do include a link to this thread in your email, along with your forum handle so that we can "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report in our inbox.
Once you've sent the Report a post here with the ticket ID will help us to keep an eye out for it. :)
Once we see the report we should be able to better assist you. Thanks in advance!

Issue resolved! It turns out that my Intego Software NetBarrier configuration for some reason was set to block the 1Password mini connection. No idea how that was set, but once I set it to "Allow Connections," Watchtower started behaving normally and updating regularly. Thanks so much for the help. Sorry I was not able to find the issue sooner.
