not syncing new logins via dropbox to IOS devices

I have 266 logins on Mac 1Password. 262 on iPhone 6 and iPad Air2. 'missing 4 logins' are last 4 created on Mac after Nov 30. I have reset dropbox on IOS devices, even deleted, re-downloaded and reassigned dropbox folder. still short 4 logins. Around the same time, set up 2nd vault. That one also does not show Post 11/30 'test entry' that I just entered via Mac 1Password. It also syncs with Dropbox. Both do show modifications made after Nov 30... Any guidance is appreciated

  • Hi @lfeiwel‌

Sorry to hear about the trouble getting your devices in sync here. Could you please tell me if you've identified 4 logins that are missing, or if the item counts are off is the only symptom?

Yes I know the 4...the most recent additions

    Hi @lfeiwel,

Ok, there are a few things you can try in order to figure out where the problem is happening:

    • On your Mac, add a new Secure Note to 1Password and name it Test from Mac
    • On your iPhone, add a new Secure Note to 1Password and name it Test from iPhone
    • On your iPad, add a new Secure Note to 1Password and name it Test from iPad

Let them all sync, then check 1PasswordAnywhere from a web browser. In 1PasswordAnywhere, which of the new Secure Notes do you see? If one is missing, that will probably tell us where the problem is coming from.

Also, it sounds like you disabled & reenabled Dropbox sync on your iPhone and iPad. Please also check 1Password on your Mac to make sure Dropbox sync is still set up correctly. From the 1Password app on your Mac, go to the menu for 1Password > Preferences, then click the Sync tab. Is Dropbox sync selected? If so, what is the file path for the keychain file? In 1Password on each iOS device, compare that to the file path in Settings > Sync > Sync Service (the file path will be shown right underneath Dropbox).

Let us know how it all goes, thanks!

the imac has a different path from the ipad and iphone. It also has multiple html files within the agilkeys folder. Beyond that, I have multiple vault locations in dropbox, and cannot seem to point the devices to another vault location. possibly if I delete the current vault location from dropbox, it will see the other? My secondary vault also has multiple storage locations in dropbox. Can I just delete all pointers, remove from dropbox and reassign dropbox locations and reload? I believe the IMac has the most complete set of passwords.

    Hi @lfeiwel,

If that Primary vault on your Mac is syncing to a different keychain file in Dropbox than the Primary vault on your iOS devices, that definitely explains the problem. The simple solution is to disable Dropbox sync for that vault in 1Password on your Mac, then re-enable it and choose the same keychain file as the one the iOS devices are syncing with.

However, if you'd like to clean up the keychain files in Dropbox and reset the sync, you can do that too. First, make sure you disable Dropbox sync for each vault on your Mac as well as both iOS devices (remember that each vault has its own sync settings). Once you've disabled Dropbox sync for all vaults on all devices, open your Dropbox folder on your Mac and remove any .agilekeychain files from there (they may be in subfolders such as a 1Password folder, or Apps/1Password).

After removing the .agilekeychain files, re-enable Dropbox sync for your Primary vault in 1Password for Mac. Then re-enable Dropbox sync for your secondary vault. Allow Dropbox to completely sync the new keychain files, then you can re-enable Dropbox sync for the vaults on your iOS devices as well.

If you'd like me to give more specific steps for all of that, please let me know. Thanks!

I thought I had it fixed, with option 1, but still a problem. I think I would like to kill all vaults in dropbox, and then start 'from scratch'. Can I delete all agilekey folders/files in dropbox, and then create a new 1PAssword folder in dropbox for the iMac? and then point all ios and another mac to that new folder?
I have extracted a backup folder from the iMac to my desktop, which I suppose I could use if needed. Im happy to try everything as long as I don't lose the imac instance of PWs...

    Hi @lfeiwel‌

You can certainly do this if you wish and I can understand why if you have a plethora of agilekeychains messing up your Dropbox.

You seem to have a reasonable understanding of what you're doing so I'll keep the steps nice and simple. If you need more detail though please don't hesitate to ask.

    1. Disable sync on all devices, it's not a good idea to delete a keychain if it's currently being used.
    2. Clear out your Dropbox of all the keychains. If you have doubts store them somewhere safe until you're happy everything is working.
    3. Create the new folder in your Dropbox space and re-enable Dropbox syncing on your iMac.
    4. Re-enable Dropbox syncing on your iOS devices.

Now if you want to be extra sure you could even wipe your iOS devices completely prior to syncing if you're 100% sure your iMac is a complete vault with all your current additions and changes. If this is something you'd like to do before step 4. then on your iOS devices pop into Settings > Advanced > Erase Data and Settings. Be warned, you will need to tweak 1Password for iOS to get it back to just how you like it. Doing this though will ensure whatever is on your iMac is what will be on your iOS devices.

As I say, any issues or queries do please let us know.

Well, I'm ok on the Primary vault between my devices. I'm not so sure on the 2nd (daughter's) vault. While sourced from me, and still syncing back to me ( as per messages from her device and mine) It looks like it isn't. I think I'll let it ride for a while as she has it syncing on her IOS and her laptop...

    Thanks for all your help...

  • Thanks for the update @lfeiwel‌. If you decide you'd like to troubleshoot further please feel free to post back here.

None of my IOS devices (iphone 6, ipad air, current IOS) are seeing the current keychain that is stored on dropbox. PC and Mac do see the current keychain

  • Hi @arzbrd‌

Please try turning off all sync options on the iOS devices then follow this guide to set up syncing:

That worked. Any reason why this happened??

    Hi @arzbrd‌,

I'm glad that worked! To be honest, I don't know why that would have happened. But if simply disabling and re-enabling Dropbox sync took care of the problem, it should keep working correctly for you. If you notice more problems, please let us know! :)

OK, I've done this on my iPhone, iPad, macbook Pro, and iMac. They all get the Secure Notes created on the other devices. The problem is, updates logins (changed passwords) are not updating. Not cool.

More info: I also checked 1Password Anywhere, and it's even more messed up. It has an "intermediate password." Let me explain.
I changed a Login password on one device (I think it was the iPad.) It changed on the iPhone, but not on the iMac or Macbook. Thought that was weird. I then added one character to the login password in question. Again, the iPhone and iPad are in sync, but neither the iMac or Macbook are. So, iPad and iPhone have version 3 of the login password, iMac and Macbook have version 1. 1Password Anywhere has version 2.

I have the latest version of 1Password on all devices.

    Hi @Jeff_T,

Just to make sure I understand - if you create a new Secure Note on one device, it syncs to all the other devices. But if you make a change to a Login item on one iOS device, it syncs to the other iOS device but not to either Mac? I don't know why Secure Notes would sync correctly but not Login items. If you make a change to an existing Secure Note, does that sync to all devices?

What happens if you change a Login item on one of your Macs? Does that change sync to the other Mac, iPad, or iPhone?

You should also double-check to make sure both Macs and iOS devices are syncing with the same keychain file in Dropbox:

    On both Macs:

    • Open 1Password and go to the menu for 1Password > Preferences
    • Click the Sync tab
    • Check the file path for the 1Password.agilekeychain file

    On both iOS devices:

    • Open 1Password and go to Settings > Sync > Sync Service
    • Check the file path for the 1Password.agilekeychain file (underneath Current Sync Method / Dropbox)

They all need to sync with the same keychain file in the same location in Dropbox. If not, you'll need to disable the sync, then set it up again and choose the correct keychain file. Let us know how it goes, thanks!
