Upgrade to v5 - Sync disaster
After being pestered to upgrade for months, took the plunge, REALLY wish I hadn't
With v4 Sync to Dropbox worked fine for three iMacs and one MacBook Pro
Since upgrade Sync is impossible, I'm unable to get v5 to "share" one keychain - each machine creates it's own new one
Have followed instruction on full uninstall with Terminal to get to "clean start" - doesn't work, always restarts with existing keychain
Wasted hours on this, really frustrated and wish I have stuck with v4 which did the job, v5 just looks prettier

On the machine that has been cleared using the above referenced Terminal commands, All you should need to do is double click on the existing keychain in Dropbox. 1Password will offer to add it in.

Hi @timwilkinson,
I'm really sorry that this wasn't a smooth process for you. If you explicitly select the AgileKeychain in the Open panel (as opposed to just selecting the folder that contains it), it should most definitely not create a new AgileKeychain.
Can you describe the sync setup you're trying to accomplish? Is it a shared primary vault? Multiple vaults? We would be happy to help you get this up and running again.

I would like to have a single "Primary" vault that is shared by 3 x 1Mac and 1 x Macbook Air
This worked perfectly with1P4
Would appreciate your help !

Sounds like you may be using the start new option when first launching 1Password.
Have you selected I am an existing user, when first opening 1Password ? Please don't think this is a simple thing and I am being trivial. There have been a few users lately whom have missed this upon opening 1Password for the first time on the new / other Mac's. Now sometimes it fails to find a keychain and you need to manually locate it.

No sync options at all. Sync preference pane is blank. What happened? Previous sync set to Dropbox with 1P 4.0.2 on iMac, iOS 7 on iPad and iPhone. Upgrade iPhone to iOS8 and did not yet sync it with dropbox. Upgrade iMac from Mavericks to Yosemite, download 1P 5.0.2 from website. Launch 1P5.0.2. No sync options at all. Preference pane is completely blank. iPhone app says there is no file on dropbox (false).
Found it. Had not yet deleted 1P4. Once I moved 1P4 to trash and restarted 1P5, it was A-OK.

Thightower - I'm pretty certain I selected "existing user" and then browsed to the keychain in Dropbox

Can I just confirm that state of play at the moment.
- You're running 1Password 5 on all of your machines at the moment, having upgraded from v4.
- At least one machine doesn't have the correct vault given your comment about the clean start
Now, the machines you haven't performed a clean start on, while they aren't synchronising right now are the vaults holding identical information from when you were still using 1Password 4 and successfully synchronising via Dropbox?
Assuming you still have one more more machines with the correct vault being held locally here's my initial thought.
- Disable Dropbox Sync on all devices.
- Remove all agilkeychain copies in Dropbox that you can find.
- On a machine with a good vault ensure you have a good backup. Go into 1Password's preferences, switch to the Backup tab and click the Backup Now button. It never hurts to have a good known backup.
- On that same machine re-enable Dropbox Sync and let it create a 1Password.agilekeychain. This is our page on Sync with Dropbox. It should look like this:
- On other machines with the same vault, if instead of simply selecting your root Dropbox folder you select the 1Password.agilekeychain package you should see differences in the message and the button as seen below
- If the vaults are identical the merge will go ahead without issue.
- On machines that are in a mangled, limbo like state I would suggest the follow. Follow the Starting Over guide for the correct version of 1Password that you're running, either MAS or Web Store. Then follow our guide for Getting started again on a new computer.
By the end of that I would hope all of your machines are syncing on a single agilekeychain in your Dropbox.
If you have any concerns or questions before starting please do post and we'll help you sort out anything you feel I've skimmed over.

Hi @timwilkinson,
I hope that this will get things all sorted out for you! You mention starting the process on one of your computers. Please note, in order to ensure that these steps work, you want to be sure that sync is disabled on all devices before you proceed with the rest of the instructions. This will allow 1Password to generate a fresh 1Password.agilekeychain file from the computer that has the correct copy of your data.
Please let us know if you hit any snags in the process.
