Dropbox login challenge

When I attempt to log into Dropbox from their main page, I have to select "sign in" to get the popup dialog window. 1P however insists on filling in my credentials in the "sign up" window in the background. I have to enter the credentials manually in the popup window. With the correct URL, I can automatically login using the "go&fill" functionality. Is there a setting I am missing? 1P generally handles these popups fine.

    Hi @iphoneuser,

Try using https://www.dropbox.com/login for your Dropbox Login instead. It eliminates the pop-up, which should make things easier for you.

    Thanks for the reply.
Right. That is what I meant when I said that I can login with this URL from 1Password. However, my usage is almost always to navigate to the site in Safari and then access the 1P extension. I assume there is something special about the Dropbox popup as I don't have this issue for other sites.

    Hi @iphoneuser,

Thanks for clarifying that for me! I've found that I never really navigate to any URLs anymore if I have a Login stored in 1Password. Here's how my steps look:

    • Use ⌘⌥\ ( Command-Option- \ ) to open 1Password mini
    • Start typing the name of the Login I wish to use
    • Once it's highlighted, hit 'Enter'
    • 1Password will load the URL and fill my details for me.

This might make your life a bit easier. Now, I've tested on the main Dropbox page (www.dropbox.com) and when I click the sign-in button, and the pop-up pops up, I can use ⌘\ ( Command- \ ) to fill my details correctly. Also, I'm not seeing a 'sign up' window in the background. Am I still testing the wrong site?

Thanks for your patience as we track this down!

The issue was, I think, that I had saved the login to 1P when I signed up for Dropbox. The web form details (the names for the fields) are different between the "sign up" and "sign in" pages (e.g. "login_email" instead of "email"). I could not figure out how to get 1P to save the login using the popup window and replace the existing login. I tried "save new login" before I entered my credentials (nothing saved I guess or no prompt to save from 1P) and after I had entered the credentials (prompt from 1P but nothing about replacing the existing login). FInally, since the password was saved, I just deleted the Dropbox login, logged in yet again through the popup, and then saved that to 1P. Now it works (and as I mentioned the web form details are different). I have always had trouble figuring out how to successfully update or change a previously saved login other than saving an updated password.
    It works now.
    Thanks.

    Hi @iphoneuser‌

I'm happy to hear a bit of trial and error yielded a working Login for the pop-up window.

Say you want to update an existing Login item, it's pretty much the same as when you save a new Login. In the 1Password Save Login window, where it says Save new Login in Primary Vault, that can be changed to Update existing Login in Primary Vault if 1Password sees an existing Login that matches based on URLs (see the screenshot below).

    Does that help?

    Thanks for the reply.
Interesting. I was just looking at the "save new login" menu item in the browser extension (or mini-1P). I never tried actually selecting this menu item because I was expecting it to change to "update" when 1P recognized that this was an existing log in. Thus, I never saw this additional window with the "save" and "update" choices. (I also don't see "in primary vault". Is that a Yosemite addition? I am on v4.4.2 of the app store version).
The URL in the 1P entry is the base one, "dropbox.com". I tried using the autofill from 1P and it opens the dropbox.com page but fills in the information for the "sign up" fields (even though I edited those web form details, above), not the "sign in" window. I edited the 1P entry to point to the /login URL and 1P now opens the "sign up" page and automatically logs me in. I guess the difficulties I saw are related to the necessity of opening the "sign up" page from dropbox.com.
    Thanks again.

    Hi @iphoneuser‌

Sorry about that, the "in Primary Vault" is a result of the two secondary vaults I have, sometimes I forget to double check what things look like when you have just a primary as many of our users will do.

One thing we sometimes fight with are pages like that and the trick can often be finding the dedicated login page although it does also work if you bring up the login window too.

It sounds like you've got 1Password working. If you have any other questions though please just post back here.
