Wifi Sync with IOS Version 3.7

I have (and have always had) the latest versions for Mac (5.0.2) and IOS. However, for security reasons at work I had to resurrect my original iPad. I was able to get Version 3.7 of the IOS version on it from previous purchased, but can't find a way to sync either through dropbox or wifi. Dropbox returns with an invalid login which I understand is due to a change in their API. Wifi sync on the IOS device produces a code, the mac version also does and neither see each other. Is there any way around this?

    Hi @msinwell and @PapiGrande204,

I'm sorry for the inconvenience here! Wi-Fi sync was completely re-written in version 4/5, so you must have the compatible version of 1Password installed on both your Mac and your iOS device to be able to sync using wifi (either v3 to v3, or v4/5 to v4/5).

Unfortunately, Dropbox sync is not an option either since Dropbox discontinued the API used by 1Password 3 for iOS after it was removed from the App Store in 2012.

But, if you can't upgrade to 1Password 5 for iOS, you can use 1Password 3 for Mac as an intermediary between version 3 on iOS and version 5 on Mac. This means you'll open 1Password 3 for Mac to do a sync with the iOS app, then the changes will automatically sync between the two Mac versions.

If you're interested in doing this, here's how:

    • First, you will need to download 1Password 3 for Mac again if you no longer have it.

      • It's available for download here.
      • If you are a Mac App Store customer, and need a license key for version 3, please send a copy of your Mac App Store receipt to support+sales@agilebits.com and we'll be happy to give you one.
    • Next, you need to setup sync between version 3 and version 5 on your Mac.

      • Setup Dropbox or local folder sync in 1Password 5 for Mac (if you haven't already).
      • Open 1Password 3 and select the .agilekeychain file that you created above when setting up Dropbox or folder sync.
    • Now you're set to sync 1Password 3 for Mac with 1Password 3 for iOS, and have the changes sync to 1Password 5 for Mac.

I'm sorry I don't have a better answer for you, but I hope the workaround above helps.

Thank you....I wasn't sure if the database would work with both version 3 & 5 on the mac, but this is a workable solution since I don't need to update the old iPad very often.

  • You're welcome! Please let us know if you have any other questions. :)
