One day iOS 5.1.2 version decided not finding Mac 5.0.2 version on the same network

A few weeks ago it stopped working for some reason, both devices are on the same network they once synced with no problems and I can't remember making significant changes. 1Password on the iPhone can't find any Mac on the network, even when I have the Wifi sync window open.

I tried resetting the syncing password and reinstalling the iOS app but nothing.

I'm on the latest versions of both iOS and OS X, hope you can guide me, thanks!

    Try:

    1. rebooting both devices; and/or
    2. disabling then re-enabling wifi sync on the iPhone.

    Hi @julio09‌,

@Stephen_C‌ thanks for your help

Did you follow @Stephen_C‌ 's procedure? Can you see you Mac in 1Password for iOS? If you do does it appear as a new Mac or can you see it as before?

    Thanks!

Back from the dead, sorry for the delay, I've been a so busy I forgot about it. Happy new year!

I managed to resolve it momentarily, I made a clean install on both MacBook and iPhone during the holidays and it worked perfectly when I set up the iPhone app and the day after, but the next time I tried to sync it didn't work again. I followed the procedure of rebooting the devices again for no results.

Now both Mac and iPhone are as clean as they can be, with no network intensive apps I can think of. On the WiFi sync window of the Mac app I have it synced with a folder and then the iOS sync option activated, is it correct?

I promise to come back sooner this time, thanks!

On the WiFi sync window of the Mac app I have it synced with a folder

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by that. Does what you have done look like the screen shot on this page in the knowledge base? In other words, have you just checked Use Wi-Fi to sync this Mac with iOS devices?

That's it, I'm using Wi-Fi sync plus folder sync, basycally I'm following the pro tip on that page: "Combine Wi-Fi Sync with Folder Sync for a complete local sync solution." But the iPhone won't detect the MacBook even if I disable folder sync.

    Hi @julio09‌,

The Folder sync option is separate from the Wi-Fi sync option and doesn't have any affect on 1Password for iOS. Just make sure the Wi-Fi option is enabled (i.e. has a checkmark next to it). Sorry for any confusion about that!

Once you setup Wi-Fi sync between 1Password 5 for iOS and 1Password 5 for Mac, it should work automatically when they're on the same Wi-Fi network and the 1Password app is open on both Mac and iOS. Can you please confirm that the app is open on both? If so, what exactly do you see in 1Password on your iPhone when you go to Settings > Sync?

    Hi Drew,

Step by step, on the Mac app side Wi-Fi sync is enabled (besides folder sync) and both Mac and iPhone are on the same network. To recreate the problem I'm having the Wi-Fi sync window active.

On the iPhone, when I go to Settings > Sync I see Start Sync and the number of elements. When I select Start Sync I'm given the three sync methods -because I selected Change Wi-Fi previously to try to solve it- iCloud, DropBox and Wi-Fi. When I select Wi-Fi I should have the MacBook, instead I have the instructions message, and an Update List button that does nothing.

Some text might vary since I'm using a translated version on both apps. I've been using 1Password for years but the problem renders it useless. I'd like to keep my files local, I prefer to avoid external sync services.

    Hope you can help, thanks!

    Hi @julio09‌,

Thank you for the details, it definitely helps us! :)

I thought of a few things to try/check, so I'll start with the easiest first: You've already tried restarting your iPhone and Mac, but have you restarted your router at all? If not, try that to see if it makes a difference.

If that doesn't help, by any chance does your Mac have a long name? We've seen some instances where Macs with long names do not show up in 1Password for iOS when trying to set up Wi-Fi sync. In that case, you could try changing it to a shorter name to see if that helps.

If the Mac still doesn't show up in 1Password for iOS, it could be a firewall issue. Please check this setting:

    • Open the System Preferences app on the Mac
    • Select Security & Privacy
    • Choose Firewall

Is this enabled? If so, please disable it (if possible), then try setting up Wi-Fi Sync again.

If it still won't work when the firewall is off, try creating/using an ad hoc Wi-Fi network: https://learn2.agilebits.com/1Password4/Mac/en/Tutorials/adhoc-network.html

Does Wi-Fi sync work over the ad hoc network?

Hi again Drew, thanks for the answer :)

Disabling the firewall seems to work, I remember activating it after setting up 1Password on the MacBook after the last reinstall, which allowed me to sync seamless.

Anyway I've been using it for years with the firewall activated and I'd like to keep it like this, I think it started failing after version 5.

    Thanks again!

    Hi @julio09‌

I'm glad to hear that we're getting close to a solution! Please see our support article on configuring a proxy server or firewall, which should explain how to set up your firewall so that you can keep it enabled while still allowing 1Password to work it's syncing magic. :)
