Back Up data

@100mark we got in a muddle there by posting at the same time! I've deleted our posts about moving your other thread and left this one here.
1P5 for Mac does make automatic backups—see 1P5 > Preferences > Backup. I use Time Machine and Carbon Copy Cloner to make backups of my Mac in addition.

Hi @100mark
Do you keep your devices in sync? If you do then the backups automatically created on your Mac should be sufficient for your needs assuming you use something like Time Machine in conjunction with your Mac (very advisable). They can be used to return both your Mac and your iOS device to the same state as the backups from the two are compatible.
If the two aren't in sync and you want to keep backups then this page on iTunes Backups should help. Some of those iTunes shots may look a little different for you given how often Apple change the interface, so here's a link to an Apple page on this for the newest copy of iTunes (I think).

Hello - thankyou for your reply. Yes I do use time machine. So if I required to retrieve 1password items - are you saying you can retrieve them by going back in time machine (as you can with other data I know)

Hi @100mark,
If you wish to restore only your 1Password data and not your entire Mac, you can simply go to Preferences > Backups and choose which backup you want to restore to. 1Password keeps up to 30 daily and 24 monthly backup files. If you need to restore from a backup older than 2 years, you can definitely restore from an older 1Password backup file from Time Machine.
Hope that this helps
Cheers!

I have two external hard drives connected to my Macbook Air. One is for Time Machine and the other is for a periodic SuperDuper clone. Does my 1Password safe need to be unlocked when I do the clone backup for files in the safe to be copied?

Hi @rgevans871,
With backing up, both Time Machine and SuperDuper! you might find it's better to work only with the backups that 1Password makes or ensure both 1Password and 1Password aren't running. Your vault, when stored locally, is in the form of a .sqlite database file so it's much better for the database file to not be in active use. My understanding is 1Password disconnects from the database to performs its own backups so integrity isn't an issue there.
If you're referring to an .agilekeychain those are safe to copy whenever you wish.
In all cases though @rgevans871 what will be stored is the encrypted form, otherwise the security wouldn't mean much
