Hello
On my IOS devices I see there is a setting "erase iCloud data" - it worries me- if this was pressed would it delete all my 1password data on all devices - as I assume once the cloud data is deleted it will sync that delete to all devices. Isn't this a dangerous feature to have on the IOS portable devices???
thankyou
Mark

    Hi Mark ( @100mark ),

Could you please tell me where you see this button? Are you looking under 'Advanced' in the 1Password settings? We hide settings like that in the 'Advanced' section to be sure that users know the settings here are a bit, well, advanced. You'll notice that the setting is also marked in red, which should provide a sufficient warning that you don't want to do this casually. Those functions should only be performed at the direction of AgileBits, or if you are absolutely positive you know what you are doing.

Sometimes we need to purge the sync data out of iCloud as it can get in an odd state and the only way to resolve it is to start fresh. But again, this should only be done after troubleshooting with our customer service team.

    Thanks.

    Ben

Hi Ben - yes that option in red is the one - which doesn't seem to exist on the OS X version. So is it true it will deleted the data for 1password on all devices? I agree I won't use it - but if it does delete all the data across all devices - then its a dangerous option to have I'd say

    Hi @100mark,

Don't worry, the Erase iCloud Data option will not erase the 1Password data on all devices. It will only erase the 1Password data stored in iCloud, which is used to sync your data. The actual data currently stored in the 1Password app on each device will still be there. If you erased the iCloud data, it would be regenerated in iCloud once you re-enabled iCloud sync.

In 1Password 5 for Mac (Mac App Store version), there's a similar option in Help > Troubleshooting > Reset iCloud Data. Again, that only deletes the 1Password data from iCloud, not from your Mac or iOS devices.

I hope that helps to clear things up, but please let us know if you have more questions! :)

Thank you Drew - I've had this question before - with dropbox and iCloud... In my mind -if I delete the info in the cloud, then that ripples down to your devices and tells them to empty their contents - to make them the same as the empty cloud..... If that is generally the case - then it seems like password works differently ...

    Hi @100mark,

In order to sync changes, 1Password compares the data in the vault stored locally to the data in the vault stored on Dropbox or iCloud. Changes to the data within the vault will sync back & forth between the device and the cloud. But if the vault itself is completely removed from Dropbox or iCloud, that just disables the sync, and won't cause the local data to be erased.

We try not to make it too easy to erase all your data. ;)
