Cannot active Safari extension on iPad

I was able to successfully activate the Safari extension with iOS 8 on my iPhone, following the great instructions.

However, on my iPad running iOS 8, this doesn't work. What happens is that when I move the switch to activate 1Password's extension (by using the "Share" button and then selecting "More") the switch doesn't stick, and the 1Password extension doesn't appear in the list of icons after clicking "Done"). If I then reopen "More" I see that the 1Password switch is back to the "off" position.

1Password seems to run fine on the iPad. Dropbox syncing works, and I am able to use 1Password on the iPad in every way other than activating the extension.

Any help with troubleshooting this would be appreciated.

    Hi @camner,

That's a bit odd, I haven't heard of that happening before. Please make sure you're using the latest update for iOS (version 8.1.1) and the latest update for 1Password 5 for iOS (version 5.1.2). If both of those are up to date, it may help to follow these steps:

    • Open the 1Password app on your iPad.
    • Double-click the Home button and swipe up on 1Password to close it.
    • Swipe up on the Safari app to close that as well.
    • Restart your iPad (hold down the power button for a few seconds and "slide to power off", then turn it back on again).
    • After the restart, try enabling the 1Password extension in Safari again.

Does that help? Let us know how it goes, thanks!

Your steps did not work, alas. However, after that failure I tried a "hard reset" and that seemed to take care of things. Whew!

@camner, I'm really happy to hear you were able to solve that!

Out of curiosity, can you elaborate on the "hard reset"? Do you mean you erased the entire device and restored from a backup? Or something else? Thanks!

I meant that it wasn't enough to power off and then power up the iPad.I had to hold the home button down and simultaneously push the on/off switch. That is what I've heard referred to as a "hard reset." I did not have to wipe and reinstall the OS, etc.

  • Interesting. Thanks!

Thanks @camner! The term "hard reset" can sometimes mean different things to different people, which is why I wanted to make sure what you meant. I'm glad you didn't need to erase & restore your device! :)
