clean up 1password for mac
hello community
first please bare with my english ;)
I am a 1password user of the very first hour, using it since ages and am happy as can be. I wouldnt want to live without it!
over the years I have accumulated loads of logins, notes a.s.o. in 1PWD.
beeing a developer there are so many logins that I save during projects and when I move the to live servers they get new crendentials, hence new logins and are deleted from my servers ... yet the logins in 1PWD are still there.
recently I changed my mac to a new machine and did a clean install of yosemite, was about time after 8 years of just upgradeing and migrateing. so now I have a pretty clean machine, apart of 1PWD :(
as stated there are so many dead-login-items. and the start annoying me, especially when I use the safari extension to login to a specific projects website, as the dropdown gets longer and longer showing all old 1PWD logins wich are deprecated. and yes I know I can search and therefore filter. but working with subdomains on a dev server there are still and often more than 50 logins from aaa.my.tld to zzz.my.tld. so searching for my.tld results in long dropdown lists.
now I am looking for a handy way to clean up.
I do not want to go through all thounds of logins and try them manually and delete the onse that are not working.
I rather would like to do sth like e.g.
- save all login itmes in a folder that is not considered in the safari extension.
- when logging to a website that is not listed, serach for it in that folder and drag it back to the appropriate place
that way I wouldn't
a) delete eventually items I still need
b) could clean up as an onworking process over time
is the any way of 'best.practice' on how to clean 1PWD without loosing/deleting old itmes?
hope I explained well what my intention and problem is, if not I'll be happy to provide all information you might need to help me.
thx and rgds

ps:
best way for me would be a folder that is not considered/shown in the 1PWD safari extension dropdown.
teh I could simply drag all items in that folder and slowly slowly over time, drag the ones I need back to their appropriate place in the 1PWD app.

haha I think I found sth that might be a kind of solution.
there is a display option 'never display in browser'.
and it does exactly what I want, it keeps the item in 1PWD app but doesn'T show up in browser extension.so now I could make a folder, maybe intelligent one, that shows all items that have set that flag 'never display in browser'.
but now the question is, how to set that flag for all itmes at once in 1PWD ???

just tested and unfortunately it does not work.
a) no posiibiity to filter with an intelligent folder on 'show all where display in browser is set to never'
b) no possibility to set that flag for all itmes in one run
:(

I guess one thing you could do is to create a secondary vault (read here about multiple vaults) and use that to store old logins and other items. It may not completely meet your requirements so read carefully the linked pages.
(I have rather assumed you're using 1Password 5.)

I don't work for AgileBits but I think you might find things a little easier if you were able to upgrade to 1P5. :) But it may be someone will have an idea of something you can do with 1P3. It's so long since I used it I'm afraid I can't remember enough about it: sorry!

cheers for your support and comments stephen
I am he kind of guy, that dislikes to 'change winnning teams' and as 1PWD3 for macs does still what I want, I stayed on it even on yosemite.
but as you mentioned it might be time for a change ;)one more thingy please.
can anybody confirm that 1PWD5 with it's safari and firefox extension is working propperly on yosemite?
... and it looks like I need a family license or so, as I have 2 macs, the imac and my macbook.rgds,

I perfectly understand it's sometimes good to stay with what you know! However 1P5 is optimised for Yosemite and has a lot of additional features you might find helpful. I can also confirm that it works perfectly, for me, with both Firefox and Safari.
There is one thing you must remember if you upgrade to 1P5. The Mac App Store version supports iCloud sync but the AgileBits store version does not. If you ever want to use iCloud to sync between your Mac and iOS devices you must buy the Mac App Store version. Even if you buy that version you can install it on any machine which uses the same Apple ID as you use to make the original purchase.
If you buy from AgileBits these are the licence terms:
Our software is licensed per person and per platform, not per device. Each user and each platform requires a license. Licenses can be shared by up to six family members living in the same household. Licenses can not be transfered or re-sold.
You can see more on this page.
I hope that helps.

I really appreciate that and am sending you a virtual beer form the good german-bavarian kind ;)last thingy ... my macbook isn't on yosemite yet ... will 1PWD5 work with 10.7.5?
I think I read it requires yosemite?!0 -
Hi @stooky42
I'm glad to hear that Stephen_C has been able to help out. :)
1Password 5 for Mac does require OS X 10.10.
Thanks.
