Licensing issue

I'm using 1PW 5.0.2 with a family license. My son is using this license on his computer; however, after months of using the program, he recently got the message that his license had expired. So I clicked on your link for a lost license and received an email with my license key for an older version which is obviously no longer applicable here, and an additional explanation that I have a Family License for version 5 for Mac, but no key. Apple's App Store indeed confirms that I purchased this version via there site, so no key is applicable, since the license is stored via the App Store using my sign-in. So how does my son make use of my family license?

Just to clarify you are using the version from the Mac App Store. And by family license I assume you mean family sharing thru the app store.

If thats the case then Expired trial message thread

Just in case that doesn't solve the issue sounds like he may be on the web site version the help article above should also cover that situation as well.

@thightower, thanks for the reply. We've actually tried that thread. Here seems to be the problem. I'm pretty sure that I originally purchased (or upgraded) an earlier version from the web, but now 1PW definitely resides in my App Store purchases. I'm not sure where my son got his version, but at any rate, this link you suggested wants him to input a license key. I don't have a license key, since this is an App Store version, and at any rate, there is nowhere for him to input such. Perhaps if he downloaded the App Store version?

    Hi @kagy‌,

If you have both versions of 1Password (Mac App Store and website), it is quite possible that you first purchased the Mac App Store version first and later wrote to us to create a free license for you for the website version.

1Password 4 and 5 for Mac no longer use a license key (number), they use a license file instead. You simply need to download the file and double-click on it to register 1Password for Mac.

    Hope that this helps

    Cheers!

@Rad, this may be getting over-simplistic, but from where do I download that license file? I have actually done that for myself, but can't remember how, and since this is for my son's computer, I'm assuming he must do it from there? Or is this a file I can email to him?

You can request the licence file to be emailed to you by submitting the relevant email address on this page.

    Hi @kagy,

Please let me know if you have any difficulty accessing your license via the link that Stephen_C provided, I'd be happy to track it down in our back office records and get a copy to you. :)

@Stephen, @Megan, I have been aware of that link to access the 1PW license, but never thought it would work on my son's computer. It did, however, and all is good now. But perhaps you can enlighten me as to just how many devises this license is good for? I seem to remember that with a family license, I can run the program on 5 devises, and I assume this does not include IOS devices, since these pieces require their own apps, purchased separately?

    Hi @kagy‌

We've widened the scope of the single licence and in doing so made the family licence essentially obsolete (which is why we don't offer it any more). Either licence will cover you and five family members in the same household and over as many machines as you have between you. You're correct that it won't cover iOS as our licences are per platform. Now with 1Password for iOS you can use the basic features for free but if you like the app and want the additional features you need to make the in-app purchase. There had been the belief that in-app purchases would be shareable if using Apple's Family Sharing but that turned out not to be the case so the in-app purchase would have to be made per Apple ID. Saying that, the in-app purchase will cover all the iOS devices attached to a single Apple ID.

Does that help clarify the licensing?

I had purchased 1PW in the past, but (stupidly) thought that I would have that same email address for life (I guess). I discovered this when 1PW told me my Trial Period had expired. When I submitted a number of my email addys finding that none of them was registered, I tried one from a previous job. That appears to me the one I used. I can no longer access that email. Am I screwed?

    Hi @Jack MacKay

What I'd like you to do is email us please at support+licenses@agilebits.com with the following information.

    • Your name as you would have entered it at the time of purchase
    • Your email address at the time of purchase and your current email address (please do specify which is which)
    • Your address at the time of purchase.
    • A brief description of your situation, your forum username and a link to this thread.

Once you've done that if you were to post the ticket ID here we'll be able to link the two and do our best to help you out.
