Copying the agile.keychain to iPad via iTunes
Dear all,
I got Version 3.8.22 on my Mac installed and now I installed 1Password 5.1.2 on my iPad. Then I copied the keychain from my Mac to the Pad via iTunes. When I now open 1Password on my iPad I am not asked for my password, but instead if I want to create a new vault or sync with an existing vault.
I not want to do either, since the keychain is already on my iPad. I restarted both devices, you never know, but no succes.
What's wrong here? Thanks for the help and sorry if this question was asked before. I did look for threads, but couldn't find one.
Regards

I don't believe 1P 5.1.2 for iOS any longer supports what used to be the old method of transferring the Agile keychain via iTunes. In fact my recollection of 1P3 is now so rusty I'll have to leave it someone else to think if there's some other method you might be able to sync 1P3 on the Mac with 1P5 on iOS.
I'll ping @littlebobbytables for you.

A lot has changed since 1Password 3 and while the two can communicate, your only option for syncing (or even just transferring) the two is Dropbox. You can't copy the agilekeychain via iTunes' File Sharing and you won't be able to use Wi-Fi Sync.
As long as you're happy using Dropbox though it's still perfectly possible to keep the two synchronised. You'd first want to set up Dropbox sync on your Mac, for which we have 1Password 3 guide, How To: Configure Dropbox Syncing. According to our newer guide for 1Password 5, Dropbox will guide you through the installation so you just need to use this link and follow their prompts and the follow the 1Password 3 guide above.
With your agilekeychain successfully stored in Dropbox you can then set up 1Password for iOS as if you're an Existing 1Password user (link is to our 1Password for iOS guide) with your keychain in Dropbox.
If you have any questions please do let us know

Thanks for your answer.
That is pretty sad, since I am very uncomfortable putting my most private infos into a cloud. I will not make use of it now and the near future. So no, I am not happy that this is the only option, that I am forced to use Dropbox. :/
I guess I need to use an older version for my iOs. I tried to downgrade, but till now I had no success.
Or I upgrade my Mac to 1P5, but right now I am happy with 1P3 and rather safe those coins.0 -
I sincerely apologize for the frustration here.
We understand that some users are not comfortable storing their password data in the cloud, and that's a completely valid position. The tricky thing is, as @littlebobbytables says, our developers completely re-wrote the app between 1Password 3 and 1Password 4, so some things, such as Wi-Fi sync and iTunes file transfer, have changed a lot and are not compatible across versions. The new Wi-Fi sync in 1Password 4/5 is better, stronger, faster and constantly improving. If you're looking for a way to keep your data off the cloud, this is the way to go.
So I certainly don't recommend that you downgrade your iOS to 1Password 3. As an owner of 1Password 3 for Mac, you're entitled to a great discount on an upgrade to 1Password 5 for Mac. Simply enter your existing license information in on our upgrade page to see your discount on a shiny new 1Password 5 license.
Please let me know if this helps!

Thanks for your reply, Megan. But if I do want to downgrade and safe the money, could I downgrade my iOS 1P? I guess I have to look that up.
1P5 looks very neat, but I do not need all those upgrades, I am pretty content with 1P3 as it is. :)0 -
To sync your iOS device with 1Password 3 for Mac you would need 1Password 3 for iPhone, an app discontinued some time ago I'm afraid (late 2012 I believe). While it is no longer available for purchase, if you did purchase it before it was removed from the iTunes Store then you can always download it again and use it.
Do these circumstances apply to you, did you purchase 1Password 3 for iOS in any of its guises at the time? (I believe there was a 1Password Pro and 1Password for iPhone, both v3 and compatible with 1Password 3 for Mac). If you did we can certainly help you with getting everything set up.

First of all: thank you all so much for the immediate replies. What a service, amazing. Thanks!
I checked and I bought 1Password v4.2.1 for iOS, so I guess that I only have the option to upgrade now. Thanks anyway!

If you're restricted to 1Password 4/5 for iOS and you're running 1Password 3 for Mac then yes, your two options are either Dropbox or updating to 1Password 4, assuming your Mac is running Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8) or newer.
I certainly understand not wanting to putting private information online, a very wise position to take. I don't know if it makes any difference but what is stored is the agilekeychain which with the exception of URLs is encrypted. The reason URLs are duplicated in a secondary file is a legacy thing that we're working to do away with. If that's still too much then it would seem your best bet would be 1Password 4 for Mac and Wi-Fi Sync.
I don't know if it makes a difference or not but if iCloud support isn't too important to you then you could purchase a 1Password 4/5 licence from us for a discounted upgrade price. Due to the fact that Apple restrict access to certain frameworks though only our Mac App Store version can use iCloud sync as of iOS 8 and Yosemite.
If you have any more questions do please ask

Thanks again. OK, one last question: if I choose to upgrade with that discount is it also possible to link that discount to the Educational License-price, since I am a student. I guess I am pushing it to the edge, but I wanted to ask anyway.

Guess not. ;)

Hi @Wilmar_Viquen, sorry for the delayed response, we've been a bit busy lately!
As you probably already guessed, you won't be able to use the educational discount on top of the upgrade discount. But the upgrade discount is bigger than the educational discount, so it's still a pretty good deal!
