Purchased 1Password v4 from App Store recently, would like to transfer to v5
I thought it'd be easy to get a discount on the v5 1Password because I purchased the v4.5.1 license just a few months ago. I've tried entering my email to recover the v4 license from AgileBits, but the server wasn't able to locate my account. I have the App Store receipt in my email, but there's no license attached and the app does not show up in my purchases tab in the App Store. I'm currently using the v5 trial. Any suggestions?

There are some great answers in your post. First off moving from version 4 to version 5 is free.
The reason the email system could not locate your purchase was the fact you purchased it through the Mac App Store. Apple doesn't share purchase details from the web store and AgileBits would not have your email details.
I think what you are experiencing is a bug, can you see if this topic helps any. Trial expired notice
A few users have reported seeing this notice from the Mac App Store. Usually a restart fixes this.
If none of those fit then you may have downloaded the Website version vs the one from the Mac App Store and installed it.
Could you reply back with the version number etc. in the about screen of 1Password.

Hi @raebot
I'd say the biggest issue is if you don't see 1Password in your Purchases history. So if it isn't in the Purchases tab of App Store then something to check is if it has been accidentally hidden.
- Open the App Store in your Applications folder.
- Use the View My Account (email address here)... option in the Store drop down menu.
- Click on the Manage link in the Hidden Items section of your Account Information page.
- If you see 1Password in the list click its UNHIDE button to restore it to your Purchases tab.
If it isn't there then you may want to double check that you're currently signed in with the same Apple ID that you have on that Apple receipt.
After that we'll have to transfer you back to the MAS version but we can start on that once we know you can download your purchase once again.

Hi I am probably experiencing a similar problem: I purchased a licence for 1Password 4 and I received a licence for 1Pawword 5, while I successfully updated my apps on the iOS devices with no charges incurred, I went to the App Store on my Mac and purchased v5 and was charged for that purchase.
I asked Apple and they said that they could not see the original purchase of 1Password 4 (I suspect I bought it directly on your site).
I understood that the upgrade from 4 to 5 was free: in that case how can I get a refund?
Thanks! Sam0 -
Hi @scurti,
If you purchased a license for 1Password for Mac from our website, your license will only work with our website version. Apple doesn't have information about purchases made from our website, just as we don't have information about purchases made from the Mac App Store. Since the Mac App Store has no way of knowing you purchased a license from our web store, it charged you to purchase it there.
If you bought a license for 1Password 4 for Mac, it is indeed a free upgrade to version 5. You'll need to download 1Password 5 for Mac from our download site and activate it with your license file (the same license file you received when you purchased 1Password 4 for Mac works with version 5).
If you also recently purchased 1Password from the Mac App Store and would like a refund for that, you'll need to click the Report a Problem link on the receipt you received from Apple, and request the refund from them. It should be a pretty simple process.
I hope that helps, but let us know if you have more questions. :)

Thanks for your answers @thightower and @littlebobbytables. One detail I just noticed is that the item in my purchase history is only for the iOS app. So, apparently I own the iOS app, but never purchased a license for the desktop app. Seems like I'll need to purchase v5--are there any discounts that I'm eligible for?

Same thing here -- Had the iOS version at $18, and I have also recently purchased Android version for $6; and now the Mac OSx version has started asking me for a license -- which is $49? geee.. this is starting to be quite expensive, wouldn't you say?
So as Raebot; any discounts? I have a difficult time dealing with this costing me over $75 for password management.

Hi @raebot and @Frigozone,
Because the Mac and iOS versions of 1Password are sold as separate products in separate stores, we're not generally able to offer a discount on one if you bought the other.
We do occasionally have sales on the Mac version, although we don't announce them ahead of time. If you'd like to stay up-to-date on any announcements we make about sales, check out our blog http://blog.agilebits.com/, follow us on Twitter (@1Password), or sign up for our newsletters https://agilebits.com/company/newsletter.
